Six, and two in the wine box from our wedding ceremony (which would be like emergency wine glasses, since we're not technically supposed to open the box unless our marriage is in mortal peril lol).

Oh man, too many. I have 12 red, 12 white, and like 12 from wineries we've visited. Add 12 martini glasses to the mix too. We could open a bar. It's embarrassing.
I read this "How many glasses of wine do you have?"
And I was like.. usually a few?
I did, too, and I was going to say the same thing and omit the times when I watch marathons of television and drink wine out of the bottle like a hobo.
We probably have somewhere between 12 and 15 now. We registered for and received 8 for our wedding. We have accumulated others from our travels to different wineries. We picked up a box of nice ones at a garage sale last year. But then a few have broken, so I'm not sure my final count.
And just recently I am on a kick of loving the stemless wine glasses instead of the stemmed and want to buy all new ones lol.
8 red, 8 white and maybe 6 cheapo ones in case I need extras. It is good enough even when I have a party. There are always some non drinkers anyways if it is a big group.

6 cheap Ikea. I didn't know I should have red and white until this post.
In my defense, I come from a very religious Southern Baptist family who feels like drinking is a ticket to hell. I hide my drinking to keep them from bitching.
I have 50 Libby barware all purpose wine and 50 saucer champagnes in my basement that came with the house. Very useful for parties; the fit in my dishwasher.
I have 8 each formal cut crystal white, red and water goblets. They're gorgeous but only come out when I get my fancy china out. I have 8 each Reidel Chardonnay and Cabernet glasses that I actually use. They're my favorites- they're wonderful to hold, pretty and they make even cheap wine seem more festive.
In your situation, I might buy a general purpose stem or balloon glasses. When I have a "formal" dinner, I generally put 2-3 wine glasses and a water at each setting.
