Oh man, I DO love the show. Weirdly so. I can deal with all the cliches because at least they are GOOD cliches.
I'm not a Stephen King fan to begin with, so his terrible writing style and his circular writing is driving me NUTS. The plot is, however, just good enough that I want to keep reading. It's also kind of fun that the book is so long that things are kind of happening parallel with the show (I don't have a ton of time available to read since I go to bed at like, 9 PM. )
Oh, but I wanted to say you have to get past the first 2 over-the-top cliche episodes for it to become mildly interesting for the show. That stupid cow makes me cringe every week.
The general plot is a mysterious "dome" has encapsulated an entire town exactly by it's borders. Pretty sci-fi, but I think fun is figuring out what the messages the kids say when they have seizures mean. I have my own theories, which, I assume, is the reason I'm hooked. There's also a main character that's portrayed pretty much as the bad guy from the beginning, and trying to figure out all his secrets is fun for me too. Basically, I love the puzzle.
could you give me an idea of how far along the series is in relation to the book? I'm trying to stick with the show, but some of the episodes are soooo tedious.
We watch it and love it. I guess we're weirdos. I don't read Stephen King books so I had no idea it was so long.
I'm reading on the Kindle App, but I just wikipedia'd it...1074 pages...
He must REALLY like himself. The circular writing is killing me. You have to live each major event three times (at least) from different people's perspectives before he moves on. This would normally be fun, but not EVERY time.

It's kind of fun because I'm only 38% into the book (So roughly 400 pages in), but the plots are aligning. The book is VERY different from the show, but I actually like the show's plot line better. It's slightly different. I imagine I'm getting very close to out-pacing the show. I bought the book because I figured if the show takes off (just enough), I might never know anything before it's canceled.
We're way into the show. I'm not gonna lie, I had no idea it was a book until we were about three episodes in and I actually paid attention to the opening credits. I've never read a Stephen King book, but if I get too frustrated with my curiosity about what's going to happen on the show I might have to pick it up and give it a try.
I have the 2 newest episodes saved. I just have a hard time getting invested. Most of his made for film stuff just doesn't seem to hit home for me. Bad acting/direction.
The Shining/Pet Cemetary are exceptions. Maybe The Mist. Was that his, too? I found that very disturbing for some reason.
Most of his writing bugs me. However, I am re-reading The Stand and still love it. But, it was a terrible movie too, so...
I don't understand this. Steven Spielberg is the director, so why is it so bad?!?
Of which one? Under The Dome? If so, I couldn't tell. Like I said, I have it saved to watch, but I'm not dying to watch it. It's not teribble. It's also not great.
Forgot about IT, too. Pretty sure I tried to burn that clown from my memory. Shawshank and The Green Mile just weren't on my radar. Not horror enough.

Yep, Under the Dome. Or maybe he's the producer. I can't remember. Either way, I had high hopes, but he disappointed me.
Since we're on the subject...should I try to watch The Stand and The Shining (the miniseries one, I've seen the Jack Nicholson one)? I loved the books.
I'm not sure I can handle Molly Ringwald and Lieutenant Dan in The Stand.
The Shining was a miniseries? I missed that one. Why in the world would they redo Jack Nicholson's perfection?
i liked The Stand. It wasn't awesome, but I still liked it. Robb Lowe's in it and he's great!

Ever?? Not even like, The Shawshank Redemption or The Green Mile?
Also, don't bother reading the book to find out what will happen in the show. The creators have stated that they're changing a ton of stuff, that the ending will be different and the cause of the Dome different as well. The book is good though and I like the characters better in the book. It's his second longest book ever written though (after The Stand, which was 1168 pages uncut)..
Nope. I think I always thought his stories were never my style, I guess. I did see the movie for The Green Mile and really enjoyed it, though, and I'm definitely enjoying Under The Dome so one day I may give his books a chance.
I really liked the book, finished it in about 10 days. The ending was disappointing, but I liked the story overall. I'm kind of into the show, but it hasn't caught my attention the same way the book did.

Lieutenant Dan was actually pretty good in The Stand, I thought. But overall I just thought it was a terrible movie. And yea, Molly Ringwald is a terrible Frannie. But The Shining was really good, and is definitely worth a watch.
This reminds me I am so excited for Dr. Sleep next month!!
