I am currently living overseas with baby #2 on the way. I will be visiting my family in the states in the next couple of weeks for a month. My mother wanted to host a baby shower, but wasn't sure if that is what she should call it, since I don't have any of my family or close friends here with me, she wanted me to have some type of celebration. I will be 20 weeks when I arrive. What are your thoughts??? Please share
I think it's fine to have a baby shower at 20 weeks if that's when you're going to be back in the states. But, who does she plan to invite if not your family and friends? If it's just people she knows who aren't close to you, then I wouldn't call it a shower, because I would feel weird about getting gifts from people I didn't know. Also, if there ARE gifts, do you have a plan to get them back overseas?
I'm in kind of the sam boat as you....H and I live in the UK, but might be back in the states for Christmas, when I'll be around 25 weeks, so I guess there's a possibility of having a baby shower then, but my friends and family live all over, so I'm not sure it would make sense...
Hi VillainV- It will definitely be close friends and family and very small. I was hoping to get the things on my registry which is just a few items like a stroller etc. Everything else will be gift cards and smaller things I can pack on possibly have my parents ship over. I can use the stroller going back to Oz with my 2 year old, so it should def come in handy

I say go for it. I'll be 26 weeks at my first shower, which I think originally people thought might be early but really it's not THAT early. Just do what makes sense.
And it's good that you have a plan for getting things back with you. If you only have a couple of things on your registry, it doesn't mean people will just buy you gift cards - you might still get a lot of "stuff" that isn't on your registry. Especially clothes (which thankfully should be easy to pack).
I had an early shower when I was pregnant with my daughter -- I think I was around 25 weeks. We live 800+ miles away from our families, and it was our last trip home before my due date, so my mom threw the shower then. Given your circumstances, I think that's perfectly fine!
