Going to NOLA for a long weekend. I haven't been there in about 7 years. Recommendations for things to do/restaurants please? Nothing overly expensive-- from what I remember most places are pretty reasonable. Staying in the French quarter.

Snoballs. Seriously, it's summer and hot and there is nothing better than a snoball on a summer afternoon. Plum Street is my favorite, it's about four blocks off the St. Charles Avenue Street Car route past Riverbend -- get off at Carrollton & Oak Street, walk one block to Plum, then three blocks down to Plum & Burdette. The bonus to this plan is you get to ride almost the whole St. Charles Avenue route.
We just went there for a week in early June. Here is what I'd recommend (and we also stayed in the French Quarter, so happy we did).
- Croissant D'Or (we ate there 3x to grab their croissants. OMGawd. We loved both the almond and chocolate croissants) - Ruby Slipper Cafe (there are several locations)- we loved the Bananas Foster Pain Perdu. I also had the Cochon and didn't care for it (neither did DH) - Parkway Bakery & Tavern (a little off the FQ, but we ended up eating here twice) for their po'boys - Cafe Beignet- I loved this a lot more than Cafe du Monde. When Alton Brown said this is one of the best things he's eaten, I couldn't agree more. - The Joint- OMG, great BBQ. A little off the FQ. I never thought I liked BBQ until I came here
Sightseeing: We did a cemetary tour and loved it
ETA: We also went to Plum Street Snoballs- So so good. Best $1!
I know we ate at more places- if I remember, I'll add it to this post. HAVE FUN!
We went in April and had a great time. I have a post about it in my blog. My top rec is lunch at Commander's Palace, especially if you can do it on a weekday when they have 25 cent martinis.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime. Mark Twain
We did an awesome bike tour through Confederacy of Cruisers, it was the highlight of our trip. We also did a swamp tour which is cool if you've never done something like that. Commanders for lunch was nice.
