How's training been treating you so far? Good! It feels great to be able to hit higher mileage again.
Re-evaluation time: What have you learned about yourself and the training process so far? My core has gotten weak! I'm busting out the strength training again hard core (hah!)
When do you think you'll feel *ready* to run this race? I think my 15 miler made me feel ready. I'm running with DH, so it is more is he ready? (And do we have a babysitter?)
Who here is already thinking about their next race after the marathon? Which one is it? I'm going to see if my BQ time is good enough to get me into 2014. If not, I'll probably focus on some half marathons and shorter distances.
Where are you in your marathon training? This is week 4
How's training been treating you so far? So far so good, all things considered. Id rather be slow than injured.
Re-evaluation time: What have you learned about yourself and the training process so far? That im easily frustrqted and more competitive with myself than i realized.
When do you think you'll feel *ready* to run this race? I have no idea. Id like to think i havent really lost any endurance since injuring myself. Im ok for now, when i get to longer runs i might get nervous and feel less ready, if that makes sesne.
Who here is already thinking about their next race after the marathon? Which one is it? Well, if i feel up to it, ill be doing a five mile turkey trot a week and a half later.
Why do I have a freaking stepback week already? I was just gaining momentum! Tell us something else about your training experience that you haven't shared yet. I feel like this one is a throwaway. It was supposed to be my bq attempt, now my goal is just to get to the start and finish uninjured. Blah.
Where are you in your marathon training? Today starts week 7 of 16
How's training been treating you so far? Ok. I had a weird, sort of off week last week, but it still had two really great runs in it.
Re-evaluation time: What have you learned about yourself and the training process so far? I care less about this race than I thought I would. lol I mean, I care about it. I want it to go well. I'm excited about it, etc. I just thought I'd be OMG BQ obsessed. It's more of a "Ehhhh, whatever. Just run." I keep waiting for that to change, but so far I'm just day by day, no real goals, just running. It's odd & nice at the same time.
When do you think you'll feel *ready* to run this race? On race day. This might be why I'm so zen about the whole thing. I've finally been hitting some MP runs, so that's nice. With this heat, it's just impossible for me to tell how race day will go. I feel like I'm getting stronger, I know I'm getting faster, but am I fast enough? Who knows. I can't tell in 90* weather. I'll train the best I can, and then I'll see how I feel on race day. I've gotten pretty good at judging how I feel and knowing what pace I can hold. I'll know within the first 1/4 of the race what goal I am shooting for.
Who here is already thinking about their next race after the marathon? Which one is it? There's a half marathon in January that I'm pretty excited about. It's the ZOOMA half and a total girls race. It's headquartered at the Ritz on the beach, yoga classes, cocktail reception, charm on the medal. Sounds like fun!
Why do I have a freaking stepback week already? I was just gaining momentum! Tell us something else about your training experience that you haven't shared yet. This isn't really about training, but I got new shoes yesterday. I decided that I really wasn't liking the new version of the pureflows, so back to the store they went. I got a pair of kinvaras, and I can't wait to try them out.

Where are you in your marathon training? I just started week 6.
How's training been treating you so far? It's going well. My biggest issue is fitting in longer weekday runs.
Re-evaluation time: What have you learned about yourself and the training process so far? A lot of it is mental for me. I'm struggling with a lot of self-doubt about my goals.
When do you think you'll feel *ready* to run this race? After my last long run and my last longish MP run.
Who here is already thinking about their next race after the marathon? Which one is it? I'm running the Disney Half in January. I'm hoping to also do a 10k turkey trot, but I'm not really going to train for that.
Why do I have a freaking stepback week already? I was just gaining momentum! Tell us something else about your training experience that you haven't shared yet. I have to run in Florida next week, and I'm really not looking forward to it.
Where are you in your marathon training? Today starts week 3
How's training been treating you so far? Fantastic! Love it. I'm so glad to be back on a schedule, and I'm really enjoying seeing the benefits of doing weekly sprints.
Re-evaluation time: What have you learned about yourself and the training process so far? I'm learning that I can trust the (albeit limited) experience I have from training for my first marathon, and I can make smarter decisions this time around. I've also had to recognize that I needed to cut back on the cross training just a bit so I don't overdo it.
When do you think you'll feel *ready* to run this race? Because this isn't my first, I know that I am capable of finishing it, but I'll feel more ready training-wise after my long runs hit 16-18 miles (late Oct; race is Nov 24)
Who here is already thinking about their next race after the marathon? Which one is it? I plan on running the 2014 OKC Memorial Marathon in April, but I will run 2014 Cowtown half in Feb. There might be a Santa run or New Year's race, but there's nothing solidly in my schedule after Nov 24 until the Cowtown. I probably need to take a complete running break for most of December.
Why do I have a freaking stepback week already? I was just gaining momentum! Tell us something else about your training experience that you haven't shared yet. I have to run in Florida next week, and I'm really not looking forward to it.
We have a feels like of 103 today. Consider it a week of mental stamina building.
ETA: Also, if you're coming to my city, let me know if you want to join my running group for any runs. We run bridges on Tuesday, track on Wednesday, and there will be some sort of weekend long run from the Riverside area.
Where are you in your marathon training? Week 8. I think.
How's training been treating you so far? Having a little trouble with my achilles and am trying to add in some yoga and some weight training to get this in check.
Re-evaluation time: What have you learned about yourself and the training process so far? I'm terrified and can't believe I signed up for this. My long run this week went really horribly bad. And it was cool out. Apparently the humidity was high (this is what people told me). I don't know if I buy that.
When do you think you'll feel *ready* to run this race? Last week I was all - I can do this! This week - which was only one mile farther - I just had an awful run and awful recovery. Also note to self to NOT eat chinese food the night before a long run. I already knew this cause it affected me in a really bad way once before - but I did it again.
Who here is already thinking about their next race after the marathon? Which one is it? Hmmm...don't know. Probably won't do much of anything till next spring - unless I do a destination half. Which would be fun.
Why do I have a freaking stepback week already? I was just gaining momentum! Tell us something else about your training experience that you haven't shared yet. I thought I understood chafing until this week. Now I REALLY understand chafing. Jeesh... At least I'm more prepared?
How's training been treating you so far? I am having some difficulty with my travel schedule. So far so good though
Re-evaluation time: What have you learned about yourself and the training process so far? How much of a mental game this is for me
When do you think you'll feel *ready* to run this race? When I finish
Who here is already thinking about their next race after the marathon? Which one is it? I would like to do a turkey trot since we will be home on Thanksgiving this year.
Why do I have a freaking stepback week already? I was just gaining momentum! Tell us something else about your training experience that you haven't shared yet. I need to get more diligent about body glide/run gaurd/chamios butter. I missed a spot yesterday and had to end a mile early because there was some very unpleasant chafing going on.
Where are you in your marathon training? Week 7 of 18
How's training been treating you so far? Pretty good - having a tough time fitting in midweek runs for the full distance since they are now increasing...not enough hours in the day!
Re-evaluation time: What have you learned about yourself and the training process so far? That having my pandora on while running alone makes all the difference
When do you think you'll feel *ready* to run this race? About mile 16 of the marathon? HA!
Who here is already thinking about their next race after the marathon? Which one is it? I really want to go back to Bar Harbor & run the MDI marathon again. Hands down, the most beautiful route I've EVER run
Why do I have a freaking stepback week already? I was just gaining momentum! Tell us something else about your training experience that you haven't shared yet. I've been experimenting with a different breakfast this training season. 5 marathons and i can't stomach a pb english muffin anymore! Part of a clif bar & small amount of iced-coffee & no stomach issues so far!
Happy Monday Ladies! Well, Monday is never quite a truly happy day, but it means that we're all one week closer to our goal!
Where are you in your marathon training? week 3/12
How's training been treating you so far? blah. I've not been doing such a good job.
Re-evaluation time: What have you learned about yourself and the training process so far? ummm. . . I don't like marathon training. also, I'm probably not going to break 4 hours. womp womp.
When do you think you'll feel *ready* to run this race? I'll probably never really feel ready. but after my 22 miler I'll probably feel more confident
Who here is already thinking about their next race after the marathon? Which one is it? the only other race on the horizon at this point is RnR DC half marathon. I think I'm going to do the parkway classic next year too. we'll see about CB.
Why do I have a freaking stepback week already? I was just gaining momentum! Tell us something else about your training experience that you haven't shared yet. I'm getting kind of bored of my routes and it's that time of year when I hate running on the mall. so for my long run this week I pretty much just started running and followed the route where I could cross the road without stopping. this resulted in my 15 mile run being more like 16 miles, but I gave myself a pretty solid tour of DC. H street, Shaw, Howard U, AdMo, the zoo, rock creek park, georgetown, capitol hill. it was a nice little run.
Where are you in your marathon training? Week 6/18
How's training been treating you so far? Okay. I've got the same old nagging injury and I'm over summer running, but my motivation is still relatively high.
Re-evaluation time: What have you learned about yourself and the training process so far? ThatI hadn't been challenging myself enough. I started running with much faster people and now I see that I should have done this long ago.
When do you think you'll feel *ready* to run this race? September. Usually after a 20 miler and 2+ months of training I start to feel burned out and just want to get the race over with.
Who here is already thinking about their next race after the marathon? Which one is it? I'm definitely looking forward to a Spring race so I can train in the winter.
Re-evaluation time: What have you learned about yourself and the training process so far? ummm. . . I don't like marathon training. also, I'm probably not going to break 4 hours. womp womp.
What is your PR? You're only in week 3 and this weather sucks balls for training. Don't give up!
I realize I should take my own advice, but it's much easier to be encouraging & confident of others abilities than your own.

Where are you in your marathon training? Week 9 of 18.
How's training been treating you so far? Getting my mileage in now, but not my speed. I don't know if it's the weather or my shoes or my hydration or what, but i'm just not mentally pushing myself on my long runs. 17 miles yesterday was SLOW, like 9:40-45 pace slow. NOT OK. I wish I had a pace group to run with. I had 2 rough 40+ mile weeks that included travel, biking, hiking, sightseeing, working (nursing) and a stupid leg workout that left my ankles swollen and legs feeling like lead for my 8mi and 17mi Sat/Sun runs.
Re-evaluation time: What have you learned about yourself and the training process so far? I'm just tired and I don't care. I wanted to BQ or be pregnant....neither of which I doubt will happen.
When do you think you'll feel *ready* to run this race? I'm *ready* now. I've run this race twice, I know the course, I could finish it tomorrow. When will I feel *ready* to BQ on the course? HA! I just want a PR at this point.
Who here is already thinking about their next race after the marathon? Which one is it? I turn 30 next week and am buying myself a bike. 10 years to complete an Ironman
Why do I have a freaking stepback week already? I was just gaining momentum! Tell us something else about your training experience that you haven't shared yet.
Super excited that this week is my stepback week. 30th birthday this weekend. Feeling really anxious about the 2 weeks following. I will be home in NC for my bro's wedding. Thinking Hills, Heat, Humidity and I have a 45 and 50 mile week including a 19mi and 20mi long run and no clue where to run them, AND I am bunching my days to finish that 20mi run on the Thurs before the wedding so I can have the weekend free to party! I ran 14 on the treadmill last month when I was there for the wedding shower and it was brutal.
Also, I ran past an old man on the trail yesterday running with his dog in a stroller...hilarious.

Well the Chicago crew is just oozing with optimism this week! lol We need a little group pep talk, because my god we're a sad bunch. Happy early birthday! Enjoy your cut back week. I had one this past week, and it felt awesome to only have 10 miles and be able to run them at MP (LOL...like it will really be my MP.)

Soooo this means I shouldn't ask you to run on the mall with me on Saturday when I'm there?
How far? What time? before like 9AM or so would be OK. maybe. after the museums open I have to suppress the urge to clothesline random tourists. JFC PEOPLE PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR SURROUNDINGS.
Re-evaluation time: What have you learned about yourself and the training process so far? ummm. . . I don't like marathon training. also, I'm probably not going to break 4 hours. womp womp.

I realize I should take my own advice, but it's much easier to be encouraging & confident of others abilities than your own.
for a marathon? PR is 4:20 something (timing chip malfunction! will never know my exact final time!). but that was in 2010. and I have gotten faster since then.
Where are you in your marathon training? Week 8 of 18
How's training been treating you so far? Pretty good, although I've missed a few midweek runs here and there.
Re-evaluation time: What have you learned about yourself and the training process so far? I want this even more than I thought I did previously.
When do you think you'll feel *ready* to run this race? When I finish? I ran my farthest distance yet yesterday and it felt amazing... which was both a confidence booster for future long runs and a nice reminder that I'm not insane for attempting my first marathon.
Who here is already thinking about their next race after the marathon? Which one is it? I have two smaller races on my schedule after the marathon in October - an 8 mile trail race (Dec) that I did last year and Disney half (Jan) with the family.
What is your PR? You're only in week 3 and this weather sucks balls for training. Don't give up!

Well that's annoying! A PR that big is definitely possible in a marathon, and you have a big training schedule! It could still happen. I'm trying to play the role of cheerleader, because we are a bunch of Debbie Downers in this thread. Someone better have a good race in Chicago, damn it!
I have to say, it does make me feel better that all of the Chicago runners seem to be having the same blah attitude. Maybe it's just where we're at in our training. We're far enough in to be feeling like this sucks, but not so far in that we can see a light at the end of the tunnel. We're sort of in the no man's land of training.
How far? What time? before like 9AM or so would be OK. maybe. after the museums open I have to suppress the urge to clothesline random tourists. JFC PEOPLE PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR SURROUNDINGS.
6mi, around 6:30am
But if you're looking to sub-4 I am totally going to kill that buzz I'm Just excited to be running at sea level, around people, in civilization!
you should be fine at that hour. just runners/bikers that early. my problem is that I leave at like 8 and forget that. . . hey. . .it takes damn near 2.5 hours to run 15 miles and then I am running through tourist throngs on the mall on the way home.
and I have 16 on deck for Saturday so this one seems like it might be a mismatch. another time then.
Happy Monday Ladies! Well, Monday is never quite a truly happy day, but it means that we're all one week closer to our goal!
Where are you in your marathon training? Start of week two
How's training been treating you so far? Good so far, very tired though
Re-evaluation time: What have you learned about yourself and the training process so far? I will never just go out for a run. I have to make myself do it, and when I'm done im glad I did.
When do you think you'll feel *ready* to run this race? After my first 20 miler.
Who here is already thinking about their next race after the marathon? Which one is it? I will have two halves after this marathon. PF Changs in January and IMS in February
Why do I have a freaking stepback week already? I was just gaining momentum! Tell us something else about your training experience that you haven't shared yet.
Where are you in your marathon training? 5-6 weeks out
How's training been treating you so far? Good until yesterday. My 18 mile run bombed and I cried....while continuing to walk/run the last 3 miles. It was bad. And completely stole my confidence.
Re-evaluation time: What have you learned about yourself and the training process so far? I can do distances I never dreamed I would! My body is so much stronger than I give it credit.
When do you think you'll feel *ready* to run this race? When I cross the finish line?? Actually I hope the week of I can just keep building up my confidence. That gives out before my body.
Who here is already thinking about their next race after the marathon? Which one is it? Not yet....lol
