A group of us are running MCM in October. Our last few weeks of long runs look like this:
20 13 20 12 8 RACE
Problem is, we're signing up for a 30k trail run we love (18.6 mi) that is scheduled on the step back week between the 20milers. How would you rearrange your calendar or would you keep it as
You've done a few marathons, correct? Are you going to really be racing the trail run? If the answers in order are yes, and no, I think you're fine to leave as is. I'd probably even make the 2nd 20 a 22, but that's just me. I train to 22, it's probably mental.
ETA: The only other thing I MIGHT do is cutback the week before the trail run, do a few warm up miles, and then run the race, with the 20 the following weekend. What's on your schedule the few weeks before the first 20?
I think if you cut back your weekly mileage that week, you'll be OK to keep the 18.6. The reduction in overall mileage will give your legs a bit of a break, and then you can still hopefully feel good to get the 2nd 20 in the following week.
