When you call to make your first appointment, let them know about your long cycles. They should schedule a dating u/s early on for you so they can date the pregnancy.
Congrats and welcome! My intake appointment was right around 6 weeks - she just covered the basic dos and don'ts, talked about how often appointments would be, made me pee in a cup (get used to that - you'll have to do it every visit!) and took blood. No u/s, but I'm not sure that's the norm or not. My H insists on coming to every appointment, but the only interesting ones (IMO) are the u/s.
Thanks everyone, and thanks for the tip! I just called my OB's office and they scheduled an "intake" appointment with a nurse next week. First question for you all - is this something H should come to? Or in general, what appointments does your SO go to with you?
With my last pregnancy, H came to EVERY appointment. It was easy to do because his office was just a couple blocks away. But honestly, most appointments it is totally unnecessary for him to be there. You pee in a cup, they take your blood pressure, and send you on your way. Once you're a little further on, they'll measure your fundal height and listen to baby's heartbeat at each visit. The heartbeat is the best part, so its fun for your H to be able to hear that. But other than that, its mostly in and out and on your way.
So, for us, I told H to stay at work for most of my appointments this time. He has come to any that had an ultrasound, and that's it.
