Because, well ... I have been decorating this house by committee and why stop now? Also ... apparently when I do anything on my own, I hate it. LOL
SO, this is our kitchen (well, several months ago):
The cabinets are SW Teal Stencil
and we finally got around to painting the walls on Sunday. Eddie Bauer Alabaster, color matched at SW:
It's perfect and exactly what I was going for, except for one thing. I decided on a whim to also do the back side of the door, so that it would be kind of a wall of the same color. Except ... well, yuck. The color doesn't look right when it's a whole wall and the door blends in. Also, the paint I used was not ideal (Emerald in satin), so I need to buy some proclassic in a quart (semi-gloss, probably). SO, since I have to redo again for the finish anyhow, I want to change the color.
What color would you do with the above cabinet and wall color. Tile is a generic. I was originally thinking maybe a medium gray, but now I'm not sure.
I'm going to run downstairs and get a PIP of the actual door/wall conundrum, but it'll take a while and I wanted to at least get the post going.

Ok. Here's the photos from the *actual* wall. As is. So, clutter and all. That coat rack looks awful, I know, but everything on it is necessary to that location, so just ignore that part.
The paint color is more obvious when I turned the flash off:
I think the problem is that it looks bad because your trim is bright white. If your trim were Alabaster as well, it'd be successful. Don't wanna take that on? lol Medium gray.
I'm usually all for darker! brighter! more color! But I love the colors you have & think a half tint (or even 1/3) of your cabinet color would look really pretty on your door.

I could do white, because I have to repaint ALL the trim in that room (and those lovely fluorescent ceiling light fixtures). But that door is our main entrance into and out of the house (we park the cars on that side of the lot) and as a result, gets REALLY heavy use. I'm concerned that white - even an enamel white - is going to look dirty fast. That was actually why I decided to paint it, because it was white and just looked filthy.
So hmmm. Medium gray, darker tan (is that what you meant, sierramist03 ?), or red.

I think the idea that darby or @pitterwoo had about a half tint would be fun.
I also plopped your pic into powerpoint and here's an idea of colors. I like the Navy blue, but that might be too dark. I also like the yellow color. What do you think?
If I was painting the door for myself, it would be the gray, but it isn't my kitchen. lol You always seem to love yellow, and that particular yellow looks really nice with the other colors, so that gets my vote.
