I think sharks are really cool, but "shark week" has too many programs that are "oh my god shark attacks!" and too few that are "hey look how cool sharks are!"
I want more documentaries about sharks and the research that is going on about them.
Admittedly, I'm not watching anything this year since we don't have cable. But past years' programs are on Netflix streaming and I was so disappointed when I watched it.
My brother (who's now 27) is terrified of sharks. In the Chesapeake Bay. There are no sharks in the Bay! Not up north near Baltimore! I blame "Shark Week". He still goes out in the jet ski, but he is super careful not to dump himself into the water because of the sharks that aren't there.
(Ok, there are actually cases of small sharks coming up the Bay, but it is extremely rare and almost never a large shark.)

IMO most of shark week is about research and how cool sharks are. Most shows are about them hunting seals. I love shark week, but it does seem like they are running out of material and stretching it a bit.
There have been a few hammerhead sitings on the beach here. This weekend, someone spotted a couple and everyone ran into the water to see them. Heh, yell shark and people run into the water.
