I may or may not have selected my Christmas cards for this year. May or may not.
On our road trip a few weeks ago we made a detour to Santa Claus, Indiana. There was a family in the post office mailing out their Christmas cards. (I know that it was just so they could get the Santa Claus postmark on it, but it's JULY.)
My first reaction was "THERE'S A SANTA CLAUS, IN?!?!" and then I read the rest and was like .
Yeah! It was just this small town with a few Christmas-themed stores and an amusement park. We stopped because our friends' kid loves Santa and we wanted to get him a souvenir.
I had to lookup what a neverfull was. I was expecting something in the as seen on tv realm. ::insert embarrassed face::
Aw--it's our anniversary!!! 3 years of awesome!!! Here's one of my favorite pics from that day--it was taken on the impromptu post reception pub crawl.
It is, which is also partly why I went with it. I was afraid of the vachetta wearing or fraying.
The vachetta on my regular monogram bags look heavily used (which I suppose is part of the charm, but beyond a patina, they have stains and stuff on them), but my damiers look brand new. So don't worry!
Although I will say, my sister has had my neverfull for a month because hers is in the shop. But hers is GM and I think she really loaded it down, plus she has kids and stuff, plus it is mongram so it is a bit different... But at any rate, some of the stitching on the handles came undone.
On the plus side, I think she's going to get mine heatstamped for me when she picks hers up.

I got the MM and it's huge. I was excited to fit a pair of shoes in there, too this morning. The stains in the vachetta is what I was afraid of more than the patina. I do like the way it ages, but stains would really get to me.
I had mine heatstamped and I was so excited! I think it adds a nice little touch. I bought the bag when we were in Paris last fall so it was a fabulous experience all around. Plus it became a MM purchase because I was able to reclaim the VAT
Today is the weigh-out day for the Dietbet challenge ML organized, and I made my goal despite starting my period today. I told DH that I will be picking up pizza for dinner, and I am also contemplating going by Starbucks and getting some cake pops. Can't.stop.thinking.about.cake.pops.
I celebrated "winning" my dietbet by eating a chocolate donut! and tonight the wine is back.
I watched the movie "Rio" on TV this Sunday, and the songs have been stuck in my head ever since.
And I'm also reading WAY too much into this movie- it's about the last male and female birds of their species and a scientist gets them together to save them from extinction. They have three chicks at the end of the movie ... and then what? The chicks mate with each other? The chicks mate with the parents?
Which color/style did you go for? My sister sent me a picture of the board of options and I got overwhelmed.
I can't remember all the styles but I went with gold and what looks like a serif font? Do you have the picture or I can PM you a picture of what I have (if you can PM pictures).

Hmn that is a good question about what happens after the chicks are born. This really goes for any end-of-species...I'm a little concerned along with you.

This is what she sent. So many options! Not a big enough difference for me to hate any!
Although my best friend has the same bag as me with red heat stamping, so I want to avoid that.
v - based on the picture I went with the example on the top left but in the gold foil. So just my first and last initial, no periods between because I don't like the way that looks. I usually dislike gold, but it looks nice with the gold on the bag.
@coffeecream I don't disagree with you. I think they can be heroes but not all members of the military are heroes or even honorable. Sadly, most of the men and women I know who enlisted in my age group did it because they had "nothing better to do," and figured that at least they get paid. I say all this as a person with family in the military who I think *are* honorable.

Kind of related. One of our very close friends is a cop. In what is (or at least used to be) the best-paying county in the US. He went into it because he knew it was a very cushy job, and he currently makes around $150,000 a year, at age 34 (with maybe 8 years of experience).
I do a LOT of eyerolling when he posts on Facebook with crap like "This Fourth of July, remember the police officers and firefighters who are working overtime and sacrificing their lives to make today a safe and joyous holiday for you and your family." Particularly because he's posting about his own profession. That he went into for the money.

Military, police, fire department, they are just like any other group of people. Some are truly heroes. Some are everyday people. Some are psychopaths and sociopaths. Who pe whatever they are it is magnified by the positions they are put in in those fields.
My brother is a douche. The military didn't make him a douche, but it gave him power and immunity to be a douche on a whole new level because he has the mantle of being military.
My good friend is Army. He was always a good person. Being military helped him with a career and some discipline, but it didn't make him suddenly a different person. He was always self sacrificing and helping people, now he does it through a new outlet and on a different scale. Same for my BFF, she was great before 8 years in the Air Force and is still great now.
Like Stan's husband, I feel uncomfortable when people thank me for my service, even with five years and a deployment under my belt. I am not a hero and am not deserving of any accolades; I simply did my job.
I was at the VA earlier today and saw about half a dozen veterans who lost one or more limbs, which brought tears to my eyes. I know people whose lives have been cut short while overseas. Those service members are in a different category than me and I hope they were/are received warmly by their fellow citizens. (For the record, I am not suggesting that anyone here has done or would do the contrary.)
My dad has finally stopped working. I'm happy, because hopefully it means he will have more energy, but it feels so weird that he quit because he's going to die.
