Thanks again to everyone who told me to "just do it!" lol I ended up participating in a longer race than I'm used to. I usually do the 2/6.5/2 race; but this one was 3/16/3. It was AWESOME! My run training has really helped.
the first run was really good - I was planning on 40 minutes and then realized it was all rolling hills (and trail!) I did it in 39 anyway! woohoo! My first transition was awful. it was like 5 minutes. It was the first one with my clip in shoes and my sunglasses got caught in my hair. lol oops! But the ride was awesome. I was doing the race with a friend and she's a little slower on the bike, so I wasn't pushing terribly hard. I am so glad I remembered to get a camelback because I am awful at reaching down for water. I ended up plenty hydrated and finished the bike in a little over an hour. My second transition was AWESOME. Super quick. (less than 2 minutes).
The final run sucked. it was just dirt and sun and hills. But I did it!
Overall time was 2:44 - my goal was 3 hours. (ha!) I ended up on the podium for my age group (3rd place). In the interest of full disclosure, there were only three people in my age group though. It was crazy motivating to get out there and push myself.
I can't wait for my tri next month. I'm way behind the curve on swimming, but it's only 200 meters, so I probably won't drown. I hope.
