Did you go to your regular doctor for your first appointment or did you immediately schedule with an OB? Did your Dr. refer you to an OB? I called my Dr.'s office for an appt and they set me up for just a blood test next week which is fine but I am wondering if I should just find my own OB and schedule my first prenatal exam with them. I have a great hospital right across the street from work so it would be easy enough to do. Thanks ladies!
My first appointment isn't until next Friday, but it is with an OB that my best friend recommended. I think that generally unless you have a known problem or previous losses, they don't want to see you right away because HPT are as accurate as blood tests.
Find an ob if you don't have an ob/gyn than ask around and get a referral. You don't need to go to a general practice. The ob will probably get you in around 8-9 weeks and you will be able to get your first sonogram. Right now there isn't really much you can do except wait it out. If you weren't already taking prenatal vitamins you can take some of them. Just enjoy this moment.
I also went straight to the OB. I hadn't chosen a GYN for my yearly exams since moving anyway, so it made the most sense to go straight to OB/GYN. I will likely continue with the same doctor after pregnancy, and use her again for #2 so we are already acquainted.

Called my gyno the day after my missed period. Went in the next day for blood work. First ob appointment is tomorrow at 7 wks 2 days. I did have the option to go in at 6 wks.
I was going to an ob/gyn anyway, so that's where I went. Then I switched practices, to another ob/gyn with a pediatrician/PCP network, so I can continue going there after baby is here.
Straight to ob/gyn. First apt at 7 weeks. What's the blood test for? If they are just doing a one-time test for hcg levels, it might not be very helpful besides confirming the pregnancy, which can be done with a hpt.

Yeah I thought it was kind of weird. I called for an appt. Said I tested early and she said "oh do you want to set up a blood test?" I assumed I was supposed to so I said yes. I guess I will just research some OBs and make an appointment for a few weeks.
That sounds like a good plan. You will probably have to redo the blood work later anyways. The one the ob orders will probably be more thorough. Mine tested for blood type and thyroid levels in addition.
