I just realized a girl I went to school with is going to be a grandmother. She had her daughter when we were in 11th grade, and that baby is now having a baby.
My inlaws when they first moved there were dropping my SIL off at school and someone asked if they were her Grandparents. My MIL was so upset and thought they were saying she was old. No she looks great for 50-somthing it's that she isn't a common age to have younger kids.
I used to get asked a lot if my little brother was my kid. It always super freaks me out, there is only an 11 year difference.
I had this same problem. My brother is 13 years younger than me and my sister is 15 years younger than me. I hated it.
I used to hate it but now I look younger than I am and Brother is a giant child who is 11 and wears men's size 10 shoes. Now we look like we're two or three years apart.

That reminds me of the VC Andrews post on CE&P. Didn't the Heaven series include impoverished people feeling like it was a competition for who could be a grandmother the youngest?
I wouldn't say that young grandmotherhood is extremely common in my hometown, but I am a bit of a circus freak for being 33 and childless. For reference, my 10 year HS reunion included bounce houses for the kids and only a dinky cash bar for the adults. I didn't attend.

Yep - I feel the same way in this area. People are like WHEN WILL THERE BE A BABBBBBBBY. Ugh.
That reminds me of a patient my mom told me about.
15 year old having a baby. Grandma is 28. Great Grandma is 45.
I had my one and only child at 38, almost 39. The idea that I could be a GREAT grandmother right now.... hell.
First at 40; second at 41. I cannot tell you the number of times I'd get comments like, "How nice that they let you have the grandkids for the day." My poor husband never recovered from being called "Gramps" by a stranger the first time. I'm 57 now, and still feel kind of shocked that I have a high school senior, but most people are shocked in the other direction ... that I "only" have high-schoolers!

It's funny you mention this. Just last night I had that "Shock". When DS is in high school, I'll be in my late 50's. Hell. If people think I'm his grandmother then, I will not be shocked at all. And it made me a little sad.

Wow. My mother and grandmother each waited until their thirties to start procreating, and I don't think anyone ever thought they were my grandmother and great-grandmother.

Meh. My Dad was 40 when I was born, it really was never a big deal for me.
