So I have a staph infection (blargg). I'm on antibiotics through Saturday and it is starting to clear up. The medicine and/or infection have been kicking my butt and I haven't done anything H&F related since last weekend. I have an 8-miler scheduled for this Saturday. My concern is my immune system is still a little down and vigorous activity re-aggravating the infection, or something, but at the same time I have a 10 mile race in 7 weeks and am terrified of not being ready.
Keep in mind: -I've never run 8 miles before so this is my longest run ever -The heat index here was 105 at 10 am this morning. I'd be running around sunrise, but it's probably that the heat index would be in upper 80s/low 90s even that early in the day.
Sooo, would you run? Run a little and walk alot? Sit on the couch in the air conditioning? Please don't suggest a treadmill. I can't handle 8 miles on a treadmill.
What is the longest you have run before? I think if you have planned an 8 miler and the race isn't for 7 weeks you have plenty of time to be sufficiently trained.
it's only wednesday. I'd keep hydrated and let the anitbiotics do their work and make a decision on Friday/Saturday. if you aren't feeling up to it just flip your long runs this week and next. and plan a route on saturday that gives you a bail out option if you need it. unless you're taking the antibiotics taht make you sensitive to sun. then run on a treadmill.
