This is so frustrating. I have been exercising and working out a lot and my pants are getting tighter and some don't even close The only thing I can think of is that I have always had a pretty flat butt and now it is rounder/tighter. My belly fat has gone done and I have toned up elsewhere. Is the new butt to blame? It is very discouraging to work so hard and have these results. And yes I am one of those people who get fixated on the size they are wearing so this upsets me a lot.
I had something similar happen to me when I started running. I was always a pancake ass, and while I don't have much back there now, it actually has shape and some of my sizes have changed. Any frustration that I have had has been countered by being able to somewhat fill out jeans
My shirts started fitting tighter in my arms when I started lifting - but I slimmed back down after a couple of months (I'm guessing I lost fat, because I didn't stop working out.)
Yes. I've put on weight since I started running in January. My H said he thinks my shape has changed but all I see is the scale going up and my measurements not changing.
'Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body. But rather, to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, screaming 'Woohoo! What a ride!' So every day is a holiday and every meal a feast."
My problem is definitely my thighs and ass. My waist gets smaller, my glutes and quads get bigger.
ETA: Also, as I've done more core work, my waist measurement has gone up two inches. This hasn't correlated with a change in pants size, but developing the muscles in my low back and sides has definitely increased the size of my waist in a good way.

The same thing happened to me. Thighs and butt! I'm the same as you and was totally upset about the change and things getting tighter, but as I got more toned I started to get a lot of compliments. Especially about my butt. Which sounds weird and creepy, but it was from my H who LOVES it and some close girlfriends so I decided to embrace it! Girls work really hard for a good lookin' ass!
That said, maybe go shopping for a couple of new pairs of pants/jeans that are flattering? You might not need a new size necessarily but maybe a different brand/cut.

I'm the same size as before, but my butt is bigger. I can tell because I now have to kind of shimmy my waistband up over it in some pants. As long as you're otherwise feeling good, which it sounds like you are, keep doing what you're doing and enjoy the new butt.
Try not to stress about the number on the label! Seriously, it's all BS. I bought the exact same pants a year apart (Express Editor pant, FWIW). One year I bought one size. The next year, for some reason I decided to try them on in the store even though I "knew" they'd fit. Too big. Express had changed their sizing, and I was now magically a size smaller even though the pants hanging in my closet with a bigger number on the tag still fit fine.
