I know we are supposed to be on a no house-spending challenge, but H is hot and heavy on buying a new sofa - we've been looking for a while (about 6 months) and I think we found the one we want. We may not buy it now - we may wait until Labor day or something like that (any one know what macy's typically does for labor day?)
BUt I'm not sure what color to get. The problem is that I have no vision yet for this giant family room that we have . I don't know what color we'll paint, I don't exactly know how we'll decorate it - and we need new carpet, which we haven't picked yet.
So I need somehting that will be very flexible. Advice?

I like the parchment too, but I'm a little concerned about stains since it's your family room and your kids are still small. It might be more worthwhile to pay the extra $300 and get the graphite, so that stains show less.
Your top concern should be undertone. What goes with the other elements in the room? Grain is pink and parchment is yellow on my screen. Neither's right or wrong, you just have to decide which is for you.
nursecramer - the graphite one is under a different listing for 'custom colors'
tarheels - I'm hemming and hawing because we don't actually have any other elements in the room yet - we need new flooring, we need to paint, we need to buy window treatmetns. The only other elements currently are buckets and buckets of legos, hotwheels and the occasional minnie mouse tiara. I think grain is too warm/pink for my taste. In the store, parchment actually felt like it had more green undertones, though it's hard to tell in the fluorescent lights. I think the graphite one has the blue undertones that I like throughout the rest of my house. Maybe I should go that direction - it can tie together with the gray upstairs in the living room, in the guest room, and what will go into the kitchen. I would just have to pledge no more big gray elements in the family room. IDK.
mrs. J. Good point about the kids. these are microfiber though and we've had really good luck keeping our other microfiber sofa clean despite our children's best intentions for destruction. I'm thinking the best strategy is to continue to hem and haw until August is over so I can avoid abandoning the August challenge (which I'm taking seriously - I drove right on by home goods the other weekend despite the rarity with which i get out in that direction and my incomprehensible desire for a vag vase).
