DH has been OOT since Wednesday: So today when DH gets home the neighbor asks DH if he's been getting any of their mail. DH comes in and asks me, I say no. So neighbor says, "oh i have a pile of yours."
So DH brings in the mail... this fucker has been getting the mail OUT of our mailbox and basically holding it hostage until he saw DH.
How do I know this:
1. i check the mail every day. my dad still gets his mail here so i get mine out and leave his so he can pick it up when he drives by.
2. i checked it today and my power bill came, and the bill for one of my dad's jobs came.. I asked DH if he got the mail, he said no that everything he had the neighbor gave him. The power bill, and a few other pieces of mail were on top of the stack..
The rest of the mail was all my Dad's and stuff that i'd left in their through out the week.
WHAT THE eff. this guy. So, i'm not quite sure how to handle this.. well, I won't. DH will.
He's a lying liar; so I know when DH confronts him, he'll lie. My Dad called me the other day asking why he's not getting any mail.. mystery solved.
I'd contact your local postmaster and see if they can contact the inspection service. Going through your mailbox is a crime and I'd be worried he was stealing your mail and possibly your identity. At the very least I'd a freeze your credit and go to www.optoutprescreen.com/ and sign up to reduce the credit card offers that are coming in the mail.
I'd have the post office hold your mail, as if you were going out of town, and pick it up at the post office at a later date. In the meantime, file a police report and/or go all private-eye on this wacko and set up a nannycam pointed at your mailbox. Stealing mail is a federal crime, isn't it?
So not cool and I'd definitely be wondering what he was taking from my mail and not giving to me. Credit card offers or mail with money are popular with mailbox thieves. Definitely report it. There's a federal site you can file it on because it's a federal crime to take mail out of somebody's mailbox.

I think the mailman leaving packages at your house really depends on the mailperson, i have known people who have locked mailboxes and their postman will leave the package on doorsteps and others who they have to pick it up at the post office. I could wrong that it depends on the mailman though.
I honestly wouldnt hesitate for one moment to turn the guy into the postmaster because that is a bunch of bullshit and illegal that he did that.
I agree with pinkplasticdoll, I would definitely turn him in.
I used to deliver mail and I would leave the packages at the doorstep when they wouldn't fit into the mail box. (Unless the sender paid for it to be a "do not safe drop", ie. don't leave it at the door, make sure someone is home or they have to pick it up at the post office.)
