I did chiro through my pregnancy, and switched to one that does Webster for the last 4 weeks (36-40). It really isn't anything to be scared of - request being adjusted with the Activator tool if you're nervous. It's very gentle and there's no big "cracking". Look specifically for someone that does prenatal/Webster work. Acupuncture is also a good bet (although I haven't done it).
Labour doesn't give you any choice - you'll get 'er done. If you want to try things, I'd go to the pool. The water may also help your pain. And my massage therapist was GOLD for my ass pain. She hurt me, but it really really helped.
I can't speak for a chiro during pregnancy, but I've seen one when I've had severe/acute back/hip/neck pain in the past. I pulled a rib out of alignment once when our larger dog lunged on his leash, and the chiro was magical.
My doula has recommended seeing one even just to "get things going" - so I'd give it a shot! I'm considering calling one this week - shit's starting to get really uncomfortable.

((Hugs)) if you're going to a chiro that specializes in pregnant women, I wouldn't worry! (This is coming from someone who has never been to a chiro, so that that fwiw.) Also, can you look for a acupuncturist who knows how to do those pressure points that supposedly help start labor?
I went to the state fair on Thursday to try to walk my babe out, but it didn't work and all it did was make my hip (right hip, coincidentally) ache. On Friday I could barely walk because I couldn't put any weight on that leg. It has let up thankfully, so I can only imagine how bad it must be if you're dealing with that kind of pain day after day.
I've recently been adjusted by someone not even.specialized in pregnancy and it wasn't scary at all. Just a little weird because my belly was in the way, kindof, when the therapist held on to me. But really that was more inconvenient for her than me.
