I had some really unusual soreness/pain/tightness in my inner calf that I had not experienced ever before. I took off three days from any running and it got a little better. I did a 5K on Saturday and it started to hurt. I did 4 miles this morning and while it wasn't as bad as before it was still there.
I went to Fleet Feet and explained my problems. I just got new shoes about two weeks ago and went up a 1/2 size. The guy explained my feet are not used to not being crammed inside the smaller shoe yet. We talk about stretching and rolling etc. He suggested this:
My new best friend used this thing on my leg for a good two minutes. There were all sorts of knots and tight spots in there. I walked out of there with a new set of legs all for $37. DH and I have been making rude jokes about the magic stick for about hour now.
He recommends about 2 minutes with this before a run and 5 minutes after for about a month and we'll see what happens after that. It already feels so so much better.

My PT suggested I get something similar to work out all the kinks in between sessions. I haven't gotten one yet, just using my foam roller. I think I may have to get one soon. When he used it on my legs, they were definitely happier.

I have something similar called The Stick. I think it was the original one. It works really well. I especially like it on my calves, because it's hard for me to foam roll them.

i also asked about The Stick as I had seen that online. This one has deeper grooved rollers than the Stick but the idea is the same. I have not written off the foam roller but this is a good first step.
