Wow, that never would've crossed my mind that you would need something like that. Duh Blindy. Sucks that it costs so much!! And too bad it wasn't something you could've put on your registry or something so that someone else could've had the expense instead of you.
It makes me happy that this technology is available though!
Ditto!
Everything about having a baby involves sticker shock. Even though we planned for August to be an expensive month, it still makes me cringe when I order a bunch of things around the same time. I'm bleeding money!
If it makes you feel better we are going to spend $$$ to buy a car.
I've already bought 2 larger sizes of bras and have outgrown the most recent size.
us too. We bought a Mazda 6 yesterday. At the end of the day it will be a cheaper payment per month, but we had to put money with the car we traded in.. That was not fun.

Uff - that's rough. I feel you though - everything we need to get (not to mention all the Dr appts, ultrasounds, bloodwork, etc) really put a strain on our finances. Forget about being just nest poor, but we'll be below that...which is what, straight up poor?
There used to be a service for the dead that would provide equipment for free. Not anymore
But I know, I am grateful that we will be able to know if our baby is crying from anywhere in the house. It just sucks that we can only purchase it from a specific company.
Ok, I TOTALLY understand you meant to write deaf, and I know this could be mean because English is not your first language, so forgive me, but I lold at this
ETA Because it made me think of zombies or something...like the dead need monitors...I'll stop

Oh no, now I see you, I feel like I shouldn't complain. I'm sure you're getting some stuff twice, right? Like cribs, diapers, etc.
i guess we could just say we are baby poor. Ha!
No no, I didn't mean to one up you, just commiserate! You have every right to complain - spending money on stuff you need but didn't really anticipate sucks. Well, even if you did anticipate it, it still sucks.

I did the same thing and I can't stop laughing, I have the giggles.

I'm honestly so jealous of you ladies in the US with your sticker shock. Products in NL are usually about twice as expensive. I just caved and already ordered my breastpump at BRU so my dad could.bring it here for me, which with the current exchange rate it came to 120 euros. The exact same pump in NL was 295 euros. And it is that way with everything, big or small.
It's so cool that you'll have that technology in your house - I imagine it will be worth it in the end! So painful to watch your bank account drain though.

What company did you use? My husband is deaf, so we are looking into monitors that will allow him to know when the baby is crying, and pref a monitor that will connect to a vibrator for the bed to wake him up.

Are you looking for just waking H up only or are you also looking for other kinds of alerts during the day?
I strongly recommend the Sonic Boom alarm clock: www.harriscomm.com/index.php/sonic-alert-sonic-boom-sb1000-vibrating-alarm-clock.html for your H. It will alert your H by vibrating the bed and/or lights flashing if the light is plugged into the alarm clock. It is a receiver so when the baby cry transmitter goes off, the vibration/lights will go off too.
In order for the Sonic Boom to work, you need a baby cry transmitter. It HAS to be Sonic, specifically. This is the only one that will work (and it's supposed to be excellent, all of my deaf friends use it): www.harriscomm.com/index.php/sonic-alert-bc400-baby-cry-transmitter.html#.UgrEzZJJMdY and you can adjust the setting of the transmitter, you can have it on a very sensitive level or less sensitive- depending on how sensitive you want your alarm to vibrate/flash lights.
If you also want something around the house so your H can see when the baby cries, there are 3 other receivers that will work and you can place them anywhere in the house:
These are the favorites among my friends. I've used my sonic boom alarm clock for over 15 years. Very reliable, you can use it to wake up in the morning too.
There are few other options too. If your H is able to hear a little bit, you guys can just get a receiver that will send out a siren loud enough for a hard of hearing person to hear (I think?): www.harriscomm.com/index.php/sa-rh100.html#.UgrGuZJJMdY and it also works with a sonic doorbell.
Thanks!! My husband already has the sonic boom alarm clock! So I will def have him look into the transmitter through Sonic, which sounds like exactly what we need!!
I dont think we will need anything for during the day, my husband wears hearing aids during the day, so he should be able to hear the monitor if we put it at the loudest setting. At night without the hearing aids, he is not able to hear any sounds, so wont hear the monitor.
