The cosleeper we got comes with a regular mattress but there is an option to buy an organic one. Should I register for it or buy it ourselves?
Do I need to have 100% cotton sheets for it? My friend gave us 4 sheets but they are a cotton/polyester blend.
Are you talking about the Arms Reach Co-Sleeper?
Mine is from 2009, so take this FWIW. I'm not sure what the newer ones are like. You may want to get an extra matress or pad, but not necessarily for organic reasons. We put an extra pad over the matress it came with because it felt so hard. Infants should have firmer support than older children, but seriously, the thing would have been like sleeping on a board.

namasteak I'd probably go with the mattress topper. That should be enough to make it comfortable. Then get yourself a pack of the "Goodnites Bed Mats". (This also works for potty training) Layer bedmat, sheet, bedmat, sheet over the mattress topper. That way if you need to change in the sheet in middle of the night, you just rip off the top sheet and bedmat, and have the other set already waiting underneath.
Save the extra money and pamper yourself with a treat

We did this with our first two and it was a complete lifesaver. Sleep deprivation can make changing a sheet seem like the most complex task.
