For S instead of going the route of switching B to a new bed and. We're having enough issues with his sleeping right now to really consider throwing in transitioning to a new bed.... in addition to transitioning to being a Big Brother. Just seems like a lot for all of us to adjust to in the next 3 months.
For the curious, though, the total cost ends up being something of a wash. Here's my math.
A) Keep Kid 1 in his toddler bed, buy new convertible crib for Kid 2. Eventually convert both to full-size beds.
Immediate cost: $160 for a crib (Graco Lauren or similar) Long term total cost: $880 = Bed frame $60 x2 + Mattress & Box Spring $300 x2 + $160 crib
B) Buy Kid 1 new bed, switch toddler bed back to crib. Would result in having to either convert crib or buy new bed for Kid 2 (depending on if he is really upset by having a converted crib when Kid 1 has a "real bed" or not).
Immediate cost: $445 = Headboard $85 + Bed frame $60 + Mattress & Box Spring $300 Long term cost: $805 (1 new bed and 1 converted crib) to $890 (two new beds)

I obviously have no personal experience being a FTM but this type of logic seems wise to me if DS is already giving you some nighttime troubles, you know? One less thing for him to have to adjust to.
Although as a little kid I would've been excited at the prospect of a new "big girl bed" but I think that's because I had a furniture addiction, even at a young age haha
