Nope. We went to half formula-half owcm (organic whole cow's milk) at 1 year, and then straight to owcm at 1 year 1 month. She's had no growth issues that I know of and is thriving.
I think, honestly, it's just a marketing gimmick to keep parents paying $$$ for formula.

this.
i know a few people who have used it sparingly shortly after 1, but no more than a month or two.. a friend of mine was concerned about her son's weight, so she added some to wcm. and my brother wasn't "ready" for the transition. i think my cousin bought single servings of it for the convenience when out and about, but not regularly.
There are just a few people on my BMB who used it longer than slightly past 1: LOs with weight gain issues and LOs with milk allergies/sensitivities (but not the standard formula, the expensive MSPI kind).
I definitely agree that it's mostly a marketing gimmick.
ETA - Though it can definitely be a little stressful figuring out how to feed your LO once solids are supposed to be their main calories -- G only had 2 teeth until 14.5 months old and ate super slowly. She's been falling off her growth curve the last several pedi visits as well. Plus she started to get more picky shortly after a year. I had never bought formula but could understand why someone might to ease their mind that their child is getting the necessary nutrition.
Ok. I wondered... like they wouldn't create it or push it if it didn't sell or if there weren't people buying it? B ut most of the people I know who use formula switch to wcm or coconut/almond milk at about 13 months or so, and they start pushing toddler formula at 9 months (it's kind of nuts).
Thanks for clarifying.
I also think the amount of advertising done is in inverse proportion to a product's usefulness

absolutely!!! a good product sells itself.
i read this book once...i don't remember the name of it..it was a self-help-style book, and it was about how to be successful in business. and it was written by one of the families of some famous infomercial product. and they basically confessed their products suck, but they sure do know how to advertise it well.
