I've gotten pretty fed up with my gym, and am considering buying some equipment so I can lift weights at home. I'm having a really hard time figuring out what assortment of equipment would best suit my needs, and I'm a little overwhelmed with all that's available.
I'm pretty sure I need a standard weight bench and lots of weights. That will take care of 85% of it, I think. The main thing I can't figure out what to use so I can do squats at home. These are a staple of my routine, but I don't know how to lift and then squat 100+ pounds at home without a squat rack.
If you lift heavy, what weight equipment do you use at home?
ETA: I discovered last night that someone else had the same screen name as I had, so I just changed it to something else.
I have a home gym - don't like going to a gym. I have one of those universal things plus a bench and a bunch of dumbbells. True you can't squat as much with dumbbells because its harder to hold that amount of weight, but there are plenty of other things you can also do for legs with less weight (ie - lunges, step-ups, etc.).
If ever there was a post for me to jump back into H&F in, I'd say this is a good one!
When I ditched my gym membership we splurged and bought a squat rack. I got it during the New Years sales, but still spent about a years worth of gym memberships on it. I've got the Hoist one:
I also inherited a bench with lat pull down attachment and a whole bunch of plates.
In doing NROL4W the only thing I have a bit of an issue figuring out is the rows. I either have to lean backward or lie on my back under the bar on the pull down.
Keep an eye on Craigslist, people are always selling this sort of thing.

I went to HHGregg yesterday and was SHOCKED at the (low) prices of their sports equipment. I had no idea they even sold it - I guess no one else does either Check places like CraigsList, Goodwill or Play It Again Sports. A lot of gym equipment holds up forever so buying used can save a lot of money.
'Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body. But rather, to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, screaming 'Woohoo! What a ride!' So every day is a holiday and every meal a feast."

Thanks for the ideas, guys. I've done next to no working out at home, and it's kind of scary to make the leap from the gym. I've always loved my gym so much, but I have just had it with fighting meatheads for equipment.
