Anyone ever been to/live in Burlington, VT? I'm travelling there for work on Thursday for a quick overnight and was looking for a decent place to eat and a decent place to run. Thanks!
I grew up about 30 minutes north of there and went to college in that area. I haven't lived there in 9 years, but visit my family multiple times a year.
There are a bunch of delicious places to eat on Church Street. Favorites of my friends include: Vermont Pub & Brewery (http://www.vermontbrewery.com/) Three Tomatoes (http://www.threetomatoestrattoria.com/) Sweetwaters (http://www.sweetwatersvt.com/)
Good local coffee shop: Uncommon Grounds (http://www.ugvermont.com/)
In terms of places to run, there is a path right there on the lake that is beautiful. There is also a bike path a ways away from the Church street/waterfront area that is 7.5 miles long. I was trying to find a link for you but can't find anything useful. This is the general parks and recreation site: www.enjoyburlington.com/index.cfm.
If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them. - Bruce Lee
I went there once for work. The food and beer was amazing! I don't remember any particular place, but as long as it's not a chain you probably can't go wrong.
I agree with Juangela! Running around Lake Champlain is to die for!! Burlington is an awesome city. Very much a college town. If you want a beer and some great music go to Nectars. It is where Phish got their start.
I live in VT and I used to live in Burlington. It is my favorite little city Agreed, there will be plenty for you to do and eat and great places to run I imagine (when I was living there though I was not a runner...but I know there are tons of trails around the lake.)
Church street is where you will find the most restaurants. I agree with juangela on the three restaurants she listed, but there are so so so many to chose! For lunch, go to red onion and get the red onion sandwich. Parking advice if you need to drive to get to Church St. (not sure where you are staying): park in the mall parking garage! They validate your parking so the first two hours are free. I think the parking garage is on Cherry street (just checked a map, and yes, it is on cherry street). You just need to go through the mall and use the machine to validate your parking ticket From there you can walk to everything, at least 60 great restaurants!
City Market is great for grabbing a quick meal as well if you want to just pop in. It is the ultimate local co-op. Also walking distance from church street.
And there are great little shops too!
And bring a bathing suit, it is supposed to be near 100 here on Thursday, so you might want to drive to North Beach and take a dip in the lake!
