I have a very low tolerance for noise; clicking, clanking, drumming, ticking, rattling and other every day noises. It makes me CRAZY. DH is constantly drumming on things - I try SUPER hard to ignore it, but it's like I can't function with him making all this noise.
Sometimes I feel like people are talking exceptionally loud, to the point where they are yelling - but I never know if I'm the only one that feels that way, or if they really are talking THAT loud.
My Mom was here a few weekends ago; She kept wanting me to turn the TV up, but it was already SO LOUD to me.. I don't know if that's me being sensitive to sound, or her bc her hearing is going.. She's only 54 and doesn't work around loud noises. Same thing w/ DH, but he works around loud noises all day every day - so I'm going to go w/ he just can't hear.
I googled this, and came up with Hyperacusis... obv I don't expect a diagnosis, just wondering if anyone has any experience with such a thing.
I don't have any ringing in my ears, which could be, or is a symptom of this hyperacusis.
I, of course, should or could go see a Dr.. but I sort of feel like this is crazy and there is nothing really wrong w/ me. Maybe I'm just really intolerant and bitchy.
I really hate background noise; it absolutely grates on me. It's a struggle at our house because Calvin is the type to leave the TV on 24/7 just for some sound. I want it OFF unless we're actively watching something. Volume doesn't bother me so much if we're actually watching it though.
Just recently I was on the verge of selling our just-paid-off Subaru because it had this awful rumbling noise starting at around 40 mph, that took 3 tries at the dealer to identify and fix. Between trip #2 and #3, we had to take a road trip with it. I swear, I nearly traded it in to the nearest dealer halfway there, and was in rare form when we arrived, just because of the damn noise.
It turned out to be a shot bearing that has since been replaced and all is well, but I can totally relate to noise aggravation. Calvin thought I was a little nuts.
My previous car rattled right near the radio - after a meltdown on a 2hr drive, DH took the dash apart to find out what it was but could never figure out what was rattling. It made me crazy. The plastic part where the seatbelt goes into the side of the truck also rattles.. I've also had words about that; especially if I'm riding in the passenger seat bc that's the side it's on. Nothing bothers H bc he can barely hear.
Cups rattling in the cup holders. OMG. I recently drove to Nc from FL w/ my sister.. she had a water bottle in the door cup holder. It was rattling like crazy.. I said "can you make that stop?" She had no clue. She couldn't even hear it.
I have the tv volume on 6 or 7. BF likes it on freakin' 20. You can imagine the problems this creates :-) It just GRATES on me. I also can't wear headphones for that reason. I have to have it so low that I can't even hear half the words. If it's loud enough for me to actually hear, it HURTS. Hate.

I actually don't mind headphones - sometimes I prefer them.. It blocks out all the other noise and I can focus. I will wear them at work, or when I'm working from home.
I angrily wake up H if he is breathing too loud when he sleeps. (He is totally a saint for putting up with me.)
I go absolutely out of my mind if the TV volume is over '16'. (H thinks that 24/25 is an ideal TV volume.)
H will happily watch a movie on the iPad while watching TV on the TV. I can sense it happening from the other end of the house. !!Not two noises simultaneously!!
Luckily, DD is reasonably quiet. You know, unless I have to do a conference call from home while she is awake, but most of the time she is content quietly "reading" books on the sofa or running in circles around the sofa **without** screaming.
Little noises like H drumming on the stearing wheel make my ears bleed.
Have you looked up Misophonia? A friend from high school would nearly climb the walls when I'd crack my knuckles or we'd hear someone chewing/popping gum.

I'm very fickle. I suck.
Pretty much all of this except the DD part. DH KILLS me with his loud breathing at night. I'm really questioning our decision to get rid of the guest bed.. He also likes to watch TV while I'm trying to fall asleep. I have to ask him at least twice to turn it down.

Interesting.. This feels more along the lines of what I experience. Maybe I'm not crazy after all.
Even the Dr I work for has commented on my low tolerance for noise.

Cracking knuckles, drumming fingers is annoying, but the sound doesn't bother me. BF snaps his gum a lot, and it drives me up the wall. It is SO LOUD.
I hate when the tv is on just for background noise. My husband does this all the time. He also turns it up so so loud. Other than that the only other thing I have a "sensitivity" to is my MIL's loud, shrill voice. That woman does not have volume control at all!

I am the same with those kind of noises especially at work. There is a new guy who sits near me who has the volume on his computer on, so every ding and bell that outlook makes plays all day. Shoot me. Another coworker never turns her phone off and I get to hear her text message and inbox noises even after I've asked repeatedly for her to turn them off. It bothers me more than it should.
Babies are noisy sleepers....I hate sleeping in the same room as them! Otherwise they don't do annoying adult things like snap gum or tap their feet.
