I want to run a half marathon on Nov. 18, which is about 20 weeks away. Our local running store is doing a training program, but I don't really want to spend the $$ if there's a good plan I can use on my own, but I've heard mixed reviews on different plans. What do you like?
I've looked at Hal Higdon's and it seems doable. I am not a regular runner but have done a few 5ks and an 8k in the past few months. What other plans would you recommend?
'Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body. But rather, to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, screaming 'Woohoo! What a ride!' So every day is a holiday and every meal a feast."

I used Jeff Galloway's plan (23 Weeks) when I trained for the Tinkerbell 1/2 and I enjoyed how it was 3 days a week running with crosstraining days and cut back weeks, to help with burn out/over training.
I did my running store's traing program and I'll be honest - it's been pretty freaking great. I was a little apprehensive since it was kind of costly, but I've been so happy to have people to run with on the long runs. Plus - I've gotten really good advice about running gear, supplements, etc. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
Prior to that, I had been using the Hal Higdon program as well.
