DH is doing a triathlon in Roth Germany next July. It is just outside Nuremberg so that is where we will be for 4 nights pre-race.
Afterwards we want to go to Prague. I've been, but it was 15 years ago and DH has never been.
How long should we stay? Is 4 nights enough? Any hotel or restaurant recs? I'm familiar with the main tourist attractions but if you have anything that was a highlight please share. I'd also be interested in any day trips.
We have time after Prague to go somewhere else as well. Vienna seems to be the most obvious, but we've both been there. Again for me it was 15 years ago so I'm sure I would love it if I went back, but I was trying to think of any other options. Is Budapest too far?

The Hotel Josef was a terrific hotel.
Budapest might be a bit far if you've already been to Vienna but you could go somewhere else in Austria. Or to Slovakia. Or other parts of the Czech Republic (we loved Karlovy Vary).
Agree that Dresden is worth visiting as a day trip from Prague.
We stayed at the Green Garland b&b and it was wonderful. It's a 5-minute easy stroll to Charles Bridge, yet tucked away in a quiet street that you get away from the crowd and noise. 4 nights felt rushed to us.
I second pp's recommendation of Ceske Krumlov. It was the highlight of our trip. We rented a canoe for half a day and leisurely paddled down the Vltava river from Krumlov to a 13th century abbey, stopping along the way for beer and sausages. Ideally you'd stay the night, and you might catch the jazz festival there too depending on the date.

just popping in to say that I loved Prague and cannot wait to go back. I think 4 days is enough. and I have to 2nd @publius and recommend Letna. great walk - and a nice way to wind down after a day of sightseeing.
We stayed at the Hotel Josef. Great rates, breakfast, clean, but not sure if the rooms are really large enough for 2 adults (the 3 rooms I saw were not). but great balconies with a view of the clocktower - but you're about 6 blocks from the bridge.
