A little over a week ago, I wrote a post about where in the world to start at the gym. You all had some helpful tips, and I ultimately decided last week to start with C25K. I just started week two tonight and it felt good. I've been working on pushing myself through the runs instead of just taking them really easy. My husband even started the program with me and said that he likes the program, too. I would LOVE to run a 5K with him, but he has always told me he hates running, so I never pushed the issue. I don't post here much because I don't have much to add, but I have been lurking for a long time. I have a lot to learn, but I have been very inspired by so many of you. I think I got up the guts just to join a gym from reading so many times how you just need to go and do it. I have also already found myself not wanting to go to the gym. However, if I tell myself I will just go and walk, I always end up actually running and getting into C25K once I get on the treadmill because it feels good to run. So, basically, thank you for providing support and sound advice. I know I have a long way to go, but it helps knowing I have a place to ask questions when I have no clue what I'm doing.
Hi, I finished C25K a few weeks ago and am still going Before that, the last time I ran was, quite literally, in 1994 for the President's Physical Fitness Test. I want to congratulate you on starting this journey, and encourage you to pace yourself on the runs. DH started off running too fast and was really discouraged when he had to slow down (because few people can sprint for 35 minutes after 15+ years of no exercise.) Just remember that, right now, you're going for endurance, so if you need to slow down, it's no big deal. The speed will come later.
Keep it up! Like 5thofjuly I too had not run since the presidential test in the 8th grade...even for soccer in high school I would run the mandatory few laps, but when coach sent us out to run a few miles, I would run out of his site and then walk to the 7/11 for a slushy. Then when I saw the other girls head back I would walk back until I could see the coach and then start running again.
3 years ago I started c25k--I could run a mile at that point, and had gone to the gym regularly, just never to run. I stuck with the program, really loved it, and now run regularly, have done 4 halves, countless smaller races, and plan to stick with it. Running is part of my life, despite how slow I am
