I'm on week 3 of c25k, and so far I'm loving it. I'm definitely having noticeable improvement in my endurance, and I'm starting to look forward to going to the gym. The only problem is that about 30 seconds to 1 minute into each running interval I start to feel a burning sensation in my lower legs, mostly around my shins. I know that shin splints can be common in new runners, but I always thought that was felt more in the bone. This doesn't feel like the bone. It feels like muscle. Has anyone else experienced this? Have any ideas about what it might be or what I can do about it? Or is it something I just need to push through until my legs get stronger?
Yes, and it drove me to get new shoes. I was trying to run in some I just bought because they had my size at Academy. Fine for walking, not for the pounding of running. Building up supporting muscles happens too, but check shoes first at a real running store.

I did, it sounds like how my shin splints felt. Mine never felt like they were in the bone, it was a burning pain in the muscles along the outer edges of my shins. I went to my local running store and got fitted for new shoes and I got SuperFeet inserts a little after that. Both seemed to help with it a lot.
Go to your local running store, not the mega sport store like Sports Authority, Dicks, etc.! If new shoes don't help, it might be time to schedule an appointment with your doctor.
