I've been having a problem with pain the top of my foot when running, right under where my laces knot. After talking to some folks and doing some research online, I think I may be dealing with nerve entrapment (yes, this is according to Dr. Google and not a visit to my actual doctor). I've basically been running with my left shoe tied as loosely as possible, and I can still feel the pressure. The pain eases up when I stop running or adjust the laces and stops pretty much immediately when I take off my shoes. I've tried lacing my shoes a few different ways, and last night after my group run the coach laced my left shoe backward (so it ties at the bottom) to see if it helps, since that one seems to be much more sensitive. I'll find out tomorrow morning at the group run, but it already felt better just standing there after she re-laced it. Has anyone ever dealt with nerve entrapment? Commiseration? Suggestions of things to try? Just want to say hi since I've been insane at work and have been lurking way more than posting lately?
It's not uncommon to get a neuroma between your first and second toes but you typically feel this a little more down near your toes and its more numbness than a pinching. I have friends who get that same pinching where their laces are and they have some weird way of lacing up their shoes. I would keep experimenting with that. If it doesn't go away then maybe see an MD. If its not from the laces then it may warrent PT, cortisone, or a change in your shoes.
