Man, there is a lot of stripper hate in here. Not all of them are drug addicted alcoholics fucking in the back room to pay off their therapist whom they have to see daily. Some are just students/single moms working to pay shit off. Some ARE drug addicted and fucking in the back rooms, but it's not mandatory to be a stripper.
Not all strippers make bank. Most don't, probably. Especially ones who just walk in off the street with no experience. There's no shortage of young women willing to take their clothes off for money or for free. Why would chicks pushing 30s pull in thousands per night?

Obviously. One of DH's best friends is married with a girl he met while she was a stripper. She was a college student. Now she is a SAHM and just like any regular girl, other than having giant fake boobs.
But for ME, I could never do it. Just never. What if my dad or brother walked in the club? Or anybody else I know? What if my kids find out? Nope.
No you're not. After the conversation the other day and knowing your already close to it with your burlesque, you are seriously considering it. And you are teetering on the brink of self-loathing, so this would be a dangerous step for you. Not to mention, you ex could use it to keep you from spending much time with your son in the future, so hell no!
Ugh this is so judgy. Have you ever been to a strip club? Her burlesque routine is nothing like stripping.
Well, to be fair, it depends on the strip club. The classier ones are more like dancing while getting naked, no?

I could completely understand not wanting to do it yourself. No one should do a job they are uncomfortable with.

Yes, a multitude of times. I'm not against stripping, which is why I said I'd consider it. I'm against stripping for Evee, because she would be choosing it thinking it's a last resort, when she has many others. I also have seen many fathers try to use the behavior of their children's mothers against them in custody battles, from taking antidepressants, to partying/going out/drinking, to working "too many hours" to spend time with their children. I'm not saying it's right, I'm saying her ex is just the kind of ass who would bring up her stripping in a custody battle to gain full control.
Also, in NJ, strippers aren't allowed to to be topless, so her routine is similar in all respects other than the music/dance moves.

To clarify, Evee would enter stripping, thinking it's a last resort, when it's not. Then she would get to continue playing the victim, because she did everything within her power to keep her kid--including stripping! Right up until her douchebag ex uses her "last resort attempt" to make her child's life better against her in a custody battle and gets full custody of their son and the cycle will continue in a downward spiral. THAT's what I'm predicting and warning Evee against.
Anyone else on this board can strip away with abandon and my blessing!
I've represented strippers in employment lawsuits. Exotic dancers can get exploited really badly. They are often pressured to sleep with the boss. In some places they are expected to sleep with clients. While some girls at some clubs can make a lot of money, at other places they don't break minimum wage. There is a high incident of sexual harassment and flat out rape behind the scenes.
Personal values and choices aside, I have different skill sets and assets from you, evee. Exotic dancing will never be the option that pays my bills best. I'm not going to be the one at the fancy club raking in $.
No, just no. This type of work has a stigma and it could be used against you in a custody battle. Women in this profession almost always end up in some type of publication which then leads to other types of porn. Trust me on this. I personally have no experience but DH thru his photography does and once you go down this road you are forever changed. While the people in this world are very open and accepting this is not a world you want to live in. It's isolating and will have long lasting affects. TRUST.
As for me, no. I value myself and would never want to leered at. I value respect and would not want to be treated like a piece of meat. I've spent plenty of $$ in the VIP room at the Spearmint Rhino and I know it's not for me.
I'd probably rather be a high-class call girl as a last resort instead of stripping.
No you don't. They end up in the emergency room for being beaten up by Johns waaaaayyy too frequently (the expensive "high class" ones, not just the street corner ones. I can remember reading up on it back when idiot Spitzer got caught back in the day). They average an ER trip a year, or something. (The number I'm remembering is averaging 4 ER trips a year for abuse by clients, but that sounds high so I rounded down).

Careful, you say something lit this and letsgetweird will call you judgy.
These jobs don’t make a fraction of what an exotic dancer makes though.
But they are probably enough for food and a small appartment. And, you know, dignity.
Not exactly. This week, my wages from my minimum wage job will go to cover daycare and gas to drive to and from work. Yeah, I'll be paying someone else just to *go* to work. Next week may be different, I'm not sure. Luckily for me this is a temporary situation and I have a support system that has allowed me the ability to make that the case. Many people do not and I can see how stripping/ holding a sign while wearing lingerie at a busy intersection can seem like a temporary fix.

I find your statement hypocritical. You value and respect your body and don't want to be treated like a piece of meat, yet you spent lots of $$ doing that very same thing to other women?
I mean, really, evee. If it came down to those two choices of course I would strip. I would eat shit out of some old man's asshole. I'd try to avoid it coming to that, though.

There are options out there.
yep
And again there are other jobs. Cleaning houses? Waiting tables? Minimal wage retail? I really don't buy the "no other choice" option here.
I'm just speaking hypothetically. Say that you tried to find a job a waitressing and couldn't but your kid was starving and you needed money immediately. To be an exotic dancer all you have to do is the find the right club for your clientele/body type, and dance.
