You find yourself suddenly horizontal on the pavement after taking a digger and your first order of business is to stop your watch.
I totally bit it on my long run today. A family saw me go down and before I could even collect myself a lady was trying to peel my sweaty ass off the pavement. All the while I'm mortified and keep repeating 'I'm ok! I'm ok!'. Somehow in the shuffle she got my handheld bottle, removed the cap, and was trying to clean the blood off me. The problem? There was Gatorade in there. So then I had a sticky mess of Gatorade and blood dripping down my leg and into my right sock and shoe. I know she meant well (there was a lot of blood) and I am really touched she tried to help but holy shit Gatorade on open wounds burns.
I walked a bit to make sure the damage was superficial and made a brief pit stop at the airport to clean myself up and finished my run up without incident.
I'm kind of worried about my wrist though. It still hurts. If it was broken I wouldn't be able to move it right?
When i broke my hand a few years ago (slipped on ice on my front steps) it hurt when i moved it, but i was still able to move it. I didnt have it checked out for a couple of days because the pain didnt improve and my hand got swollen. Id go to and urgent care with an xray machine if you can, just in case. Hope everything is ok!
I second getting it looked at if it continues to hurt or swells/bruises. My H walked around on a broken foot for a month at least. It finally hurt enough he for it checked and sure enough it was broken. Better safe than sorry!
Holy shit girl. That's scary and yet mildly amusing at the same time. I'm sorry that non-runners were the first responders.
I'd ice the wrist and keep a sharp eye on it- you can still move it if its broken since there are a ton of little bones in there, but if its sharp stabbing pain I'd go to the doctor and get it xrayed. And take it easy for the rest if the weekend, you crazy marathon trooper you.
Well, I was on a city street on my way between two trails. No runners around. When I got back on the trail, still bleeding before airport pit stop, several cyclists and runners asked if I was OK/needed help. It looked worse than it was. Maybe I bled more because I was running at the time or something?
Thanks guys. I'll keep an eye on the wrist. It's not swelling and it more of a dull pain. I'm going to be wicked pissed if a stupid broken wrist derails me now!
Fwiw, having my hand in a cast (that went up almost to my elbow) in no way deterred me from running. Spin was tricky (i couldnt balance on one arm and couldnt stand) and couldnt do a lot of things in pilates, but my biggest challenge with running was finding shirts that fit over my cast, but it was winter.
Of course, they had a bitch of a time getting my cast off because they didnt clairfymthat "dont get it wet" meant i wasnt supposed to sweat a lot, but whatever, i did, and it was fine!

Your first sentence made me LOL. The rest - ouch! I've fallen while running and didn't realize how much blood I had running off my elbow until I got home. Then I realized why people were gawking.
H had a cast on his wrist once and kept running. It got pretty gnarly, he would have it cut off and replaced with a new one every week or so because it would get so funky.
Ugh, that sucks. I'm impressed you finished your run. I usually call it a day after I take a spill.
There comes a point in every run where you are as far away from home as you are going to get. That's when this went down. At mile 8 of 17. The quickest way home at that point was running and min running distance was 5 mi and if I could make 13, I could make 17, kwim? It was really just a scrape. a bad scrape, but I wasn't injured in the classic sense. If the knee had felt unstable I would have grabbed a cab (didn't have my smartrip on me).
Plus, I was having a great run and I wanted to sleep in tomorrow. Sunday afternoon is family gym time @ casa de ebeth.
We have a saying in our running group, "It's not a training cycle until someone eats the pavement." Glad that you're ok. Hope the wrist feels better!
I'm impressed with the Garmin stopping. The last time I tripped, I jumped up all scraped up & bloody, & the first thing I said (when everyone was asking if I was OK) was, "Motherfucker! I forgot to stop my watch!" Lol
