DD's best friend's nanny tested positive while hospitalized for breathing trouble. Little best friend is now on prophylactic pertussis treatment. I sent a quick message to her pedi and said I'd be watching DD in case she got symptoms. We've received *5* follow up calls over two days. (I explain DD and lbf are both asymptomatic). When I thanked them for thorough service, she mentioned they are seeing a lot of cases. This county was the hotbed for the outbreak three years ago when it went national. (I accidentally posted this on got pregnant too, but left it since it is relevant).
Thinking of you, karmasabiotch and hope this has nothing to do with your pnuemonia ((hugs))
Especially now that I live in this silly state. Maybe it'll stay up there?
I've seen recent news reports for outbreaks in at least 6 other states (Texas, NC, Florida, Colorado, Michigan, Ohio) but nothing specifically down your way. Yay for Marin!
So, the kids should be fine as long as they are current on vaccinations, right? Ughhhhhh. This sucks!
Perhaps not. Kaiser just did a study showing that while Tdap boosters help, they aren't enough. I don't know if the initial vax which the little kidlets get is enough, but for adults it only helps somewhat. They are looking into a new vaccine. (they = whomever was quoted in the article about the Kaiser press release that I scanned)

I was just discussing this at my last OB appointment- they now want you get get the booster every time you're pregnant, in the third tri, to try and pass some of the booster effects to the baby

So...was the medical debate solved regarding whether getting the vax while pregnant didn't make your unborn child immune to the vax once they were born and got it themselves?
This is why my OB wouldn't give it to me until the day I delivered N.
