Ummm....I was debating saying anything because I'm semi pouting & you guys are going to yell at me & tell me I'm stupid. Lol
2 1/2 min PR from a flat course in April, 3rd in my age group, 1:44:12. I know, nothing to complain about, and I AM happy about the PR. The thing is, I had a crappy race. My calf that was bothering me last week tightened into a knot at mile freakin TWO & I spent the next 11 miles debating if I was risking injury by not dropping out. It's OK today, just sore. They also said it was flat & fast....no. There were a lot of freakin hills & a ton of false flats. It was nice that the weather was cooler, but it was rainy & humid. This also meant that the course was slippery & the trail part was filled with muddy puddles. I kinda hated it. Lol
The positives to balance out my whining is that it was run well. Great volunteers. Very pretty course, but the scenery was lost since half of it was run in the dark. Really cute, soft, race shirt. Fun medal. The race results lead me to believe that it was a tougher course for a lot of people, so that's good. I really needed a 1:42:xx for confidence for Chicago, but I think if it wasn't for the challenges mentioned, I could have done it. My pace took a dive on the hills in the last few miles. My goal is shaken a bit, but I'll refocus & get over it. I'm being a baby.

I totally understand where you're coming from. I have a goal for my September half, basically a time that I decided I should meet in order to feel confident about my marathon goal. So I understand what you're talking about. But it sounds like there were a lot of other factors here: weather, hills, your calf, etc, so you're still on target. Congrats on the PR and your AG award!
Thanks, girls! I love that you understand. I've been hitting training paces that are consistent with my goal, which has been especially encouraging in the heat. My track workouts are where they need to be, & I had a really good 10 mile MP run 2 weeks ago, so I just need to trust the training & push through to the end. A 2 1/2 min PR from just 4 months ago proves that it's working. Whatever will be, will be.

You did a great job! Yeah, the obstacles didn't help you get where you wanted to be yesterday, but one day doesn't define weeks of training results. You'll rock your marathon!
Hope your calf is doing better. Use heat and a stick, if you have one. And your ART guy, too, will really help to loosen things up to deep it heal.
Congrats, you did great! It was a hard race, and you still got a 2 1/2 minute PR! I'd kill for a 2 1/2 second PR, lol. I think you are setting yourself up perfectly for Chicago,
By the way, we went to the beach at Hanna Park today and saw dolphins swimming just offshore. So cool! I miss the beach.
I give you a lot of credit for being a runner in FL. I don't think I could run here regularly in the summer, at least not for long distances.
Haha. Thanks. I was wondering how your running went when you were here. I swear, we got an hour outside of Atlanta, & it jumped up 10 degrees. The car said 91 by the time we hit FL. Yuck. It's hard to believe, but you adapt...to a point. We were talking about how much better we're running in it now, then we were in June.
I'm glad you had a nice day at Hannah. I love days like that at the beach. My favorite runs are when we're running down the landing or over the Acosta & the Main St bridges & we see the dolphin in the river. I never get tired of it. I hope we can get together next time you're in town!

I went out at 5:30 am, so it was manageable, but I kept to an easy pace. I grew up in FL, but I've been away for a long time. I'm finally starting to get used to "northern" winters!
Great job lady!! It sounds like a tough trek, and it's awesome that you still PRed. I hope you can just rest it a few days and have no other problems with the sore calf.

Congrats on the PR and AG award! That's excellent!
Some people from my running group were also talking about how challenging those last few miles were since it was dark and slippery. I totally gave the side-eye to the course description on the website, claiming it to be flat. Maybe flatter relative to the rest of Atlanta, but I can't think of any place I've run in Roswell that I'd consider flat.
You are primed and ready to have a big race in Chicago.

Exactly. I mean, it was no San Francisco, but you can't call it flat. I'm from FL. We do flat here. There were a couple of smaller hills and gradual inclines in the beginning, but the hills in the final miles were the true suck. What was really annoying is that they'd call it one hill, but they'd send you up it, 3/4 of the way down it, and then they'd hairpin you right back up it. I mean, what the hell? lol Plus, you couldn't really enjoy the downhill section for fear of slipping & busting ass.
I settled into the low 7:50's for the first 5-6 miles & felt pretty good. I've gotten good at running negative splits with that distance, so I figured I'd hang there and drop it down in the last few miles. Haha, yeah, that wasn't happening. It was just annoying.
