People who step out of the deli line at the market to do their shopping and then get all chapped when they come back and we're on number 40 and they had number 36. Stay in line dammit!
I love that our deli has an ordering machine. I punch my order in, then they announce my number over the intercom when it's ready. I don't understand why people wait in the line instead of using it!
Isn't the point of taking a number that you don't have to stay in line?
If everyone is standing in order, what would be the purpose of having a number?
I agree it's annoying when people get pissed that they missed their turn, but I always thought the point was to keep shopping and listen for your number so you don't need to stand around?
This. Our local store will announce your number over an intercom or just call it out if you don't show up right away.

No! The point is so everyone can know who's next! I picked #59. They were on 33 when I got there. This market in particular doesn't have one where you can order yourself. They're calling 38? 38, 38..... Then when they are on 45, 38 comes back from wherever and is pissed that they skipped her.

I thought the point of the numbers was so when there are 15 people standing at the counter, there is no arguing or confusion about whose turn it is or who has been waiting longer. I wouldn't want to take a number and then wander off to do other shopping. Sometimes the service is slow, but sometimes it's fast and I would have missed my turn.

And when they come back, they should take a new number. You snooze, you lose.

Yup. If it is a long line, I might pick up something from the aisle right there or on the closest end cap but I've never been out of earshot or missed my turn.
I have seen fights break out over people who refused to get tickets before!
