It seems like all the girls at my gym love to run and race. I am obvs NOT one of them. Most of them do CF as their main sport and run for fun. There was one girl who was trying to both and she was wearing herself incredibly thin and ended up having to choose.
I did. Halfs, not full. I found CF to be a nice complement to half training. IIRC, I did CF three times during the week which freed up my weekends for my long and recovery runs.

How did you do your schedule? Did you do any runs during the week outside CF?
I am going to do my long run on Saturday morning and have my rest day be Sunday. I am trying to figure out M-F. We usually have at least 1-2 strong running wods during the week. I am wondering if that is enough, or if I need to add a mid-length run to my schedule.

Yes, I believe I followed the Hal Higdon program and ran approx. 5/week, so there were 2-3 times during the week that I ran. I took CF class over my lunch hour which freed up my evening for my runs. I would change into my running clothes at the end of the work day and stop along my way home to get my weekday runs in. This was about 2 years ago, so my memory is a little foggy, but I'm pretty sure that's how I broke it up.
I think on the days where we had run-heavy WOD's, I scaled back my weekday runs. On days where I was particularly burned out due to a strenuous CF class, I would skip the run. Personally, I just found that I needed to adjust my training some days in order to accommodate CF and not get burned out/injured.
LOL, I wish I could be more specific and helpful, but I can't remember exactly how I split it all up 2 years ago, but I promise that it's do-able Personally, I think full marathon training and CF would be pretty difficult, but I'm sure it's do-able. I have no advice on that, though
In theory, yes, I have run 2 halves while doing CF, but it was more like doing CF and then some half assed training for my half (but I finished both times, so I did something right!)
Anyway, I follow the Runners World 3-2 program, cannot remember the exact real name off the top of my head, but it calls for three days of running - speed, tempo and long runs. I *always* did the long runs. Sometimes we ran a lot in the WOD, and I could call it my speed run. I would CF M, W, F and run Saturday and Sunday and one day during the week - just depended on my schedule.
I plan to start training in September and will do the same thing.

Yea I am not looking to be GREAT at running, just doing it for fun and to accomplish a BIG goal....running a marathon next March in Antarctica.
I know I will always do my long run on the weekend, and then count a speed run for a sprint heavy wod at crossfit. I should probably add a mid-length run in the middle of the week though.

I started doing CF to complement my marathon training. When training For my last marathon I did CF 3 days per week and run 5 days per week. For wineglass marathon (which I'm not doing now b/c I'm pregnant) I was planning to CF 3 days, run 4 days and ride 1-2 days.
I'm not much of a runner but I'm signed up for a half next Spring and I also do CrossFit. My endurance coach at CF suggests 4 days of CF and 3 days of endurance with one of those days overlapping with a CF day so that I have one full day of rest.
I don't do CF but do a weight-heavy "interval" class TWTh over lunch that is taught by a CF instructor so... We kind of personalize what we do and often switch between focusing on upper and lower body, cardio and abs. Sometimes it is truly an interval class, though and we do rounds of tabata or WODs.
Anyways, all that to say I am officially starting half training tomorrow and planning to add 2 5mi. runs during the week and a long run on weekends (6, 7...12). I'm also planning to keep doing body pump on Monday and Fridays and kickboxing class on non-run days. I don't have much of a running base but am in pretty decent cardio shape so I don't think training will be TOO bad. Is my schedule okay? Is 5 mi twice a week enough or should I be going further between long runs? Is 8 weeks enough time to train? I don't need to break any world records, I'd just like to finish in one piece...
'Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body. But rather, to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, screaming 'Woohoo! What a ride!' So every day is a holiday and every meal a feast."
