Any input would be welcome. I ordered some, but they were the wrong pattern completely, and were too narrow to cover the opening. I hunk I've decided to ditch the fug cheap double track currently in place, but am not sure what to do instead. Designer suggested a straight rod (not a track system) across the bay window, but I am not sure if that would look strange. I'm leaning towards putting it on the outside ledge, above the window (but still on the darker gold color). Thoughts?
And yes, I know the shrubs are out of control. I've been gone, whatever.

Ooooooooo. I love it. I don't know if I'd even put anything on it (but I'm sure you want something for privacy.) I don't know if I'd do a straight rod, either, I would emphasize the curve.

I want something. The space is very...echoey (is that even a word?) and cold feeling. It needs something soft. I have a rug on order, but it needs something else, and I love the fabric she chose. Can't pip that, unfortunately, as I don't have a pic.

Is this your dining room?
I'm not a huge fan of Roman shades, but the right ones might work if you feel you need fabric instead of wood.

yes, it is the dining room, and yes, it faces the street. There is a lot of vegetation though, so I was concerned about privacy initially, but am not so much now (even for winter). I typically love plantation shutters, but I don't know if those would work in this space, given the other things I've chosen (which are already paid for, and not changing!).
That's a very pretty set of windows. But I can see where there would be no "slam-dunk" standard way to dress them.
If you don't need a functional treatment, you could run a substantial rod along the top of the flat gold wall and drop a panel at either end. You could add a sheer panel to each window, perhaps something embroidered and gathered top and bottom or a sheer blind.
You could also so a padded cornice/pelmet to hand just under the bay and hang panels to either side under that.
You could hang panels from pegs at the sides and between each window for color and noise deadening.
The way they're trimmed out, they are pretty even without a treatment.

PEOPLE. Plantation shutters are not happening. I've paid for the curtains as a custom order. They have to be remade because they were done incorrectly, but I'm not getting that money back, so curtains are happening. FOCUS.
Also, I like the look of my windows, and don't want something heavy to mostly block them, like shutters.
I think a straight rod along the straight part of the wall ABOVE the curved window/wall that runs the length of the windows would look great, with long curtains just framing the sides of the windows. You could have enough curtains pushed to each side to cover the whole window if you want the privacy, but I think it would also give you the softness you're after. This way, you don't have a straight rod running directly in front of the beautiful windows.

oh, derp. I didn't realize straight rod directly in front of the windows was even an option. I meant on the gold, on the wall in front of the windows, on the outside ledge like you said. I think that would look great.

we're getting rid of the track, and putting up a rod. should the rod go in the alcove, or above it? If it goes in the alcove, should it be curved or straight?
pagas: the floor is a marble tile. I don't love it, but that is going to be a major undertaking to change, so it will probably stay for a very long time. It isn't as bad as it was now that there's paint instead of reflective wall paper on the walls.
Country Curtains (ignore the dumb name) has some nice hardware for bay windows if you want something prettier than a track rod. Then you could just do floor-length panels in between each window, just to cover the wall space between each window when scrunched since you don't really need them for function.
Pagas - where did you get your drum shade? I'm having the hardest time finding a light fixture for my kitchen. Also, I love your space! Beautiful chairs!
Dot- I can't viualize a straight rod outside the alcove. Are your curtains sheer? Solid? Will you have them open or draped at the sides or closed most of the time?

they are solid silk dupioni. platinum/gray and gold/ivory ish color. They fabric looks great, I just don't know what to do about the rod situation.
here's a pic of the rod outside a similar-ish window:
The more I think about it, the more I'm leaning this direction.
even though there won't be panels between each window? Just on either end?
I'm sure I'm over thinking this, and if I walked into a house w/ any of the options I'm considering I wouldn't think twice, but now that i have to decide for myself, I'm making myself crazy. lol.
With two panels I really like the straight and above the alcove look. However, the curved and inside with panels for each window is gorgeous if you could get more fabric/panels made.
The curved rod with multiple panels looks great on the bigger/deeper alcoves but I think yours would be better with a straight rod with a panel on each side.

I think because you're curve doesn't have as much depth - I'd do just above and straight. Plus it'll give your girls a place to get read when they do dance performances - it'll be like their little "back stage" area.
Really though - I agree - either way you do it will be good.
Finally....have you thought about plantation shutters?? bwahahahah. please don't hit me.
