Our dog has been scratching a lot recently. At first we thought it was because he was dirty, so we had him bathed. He was a little better but still itchy. He suffers from allergies in the spring, so we thought that he was still suffering from them since we've had such a wet summer. But he just didn't get better. So H took him to the vet, and he has mites. Like the kind that puppies and sick dogs get. He's going to be on treatment for 6 weeks now.
The vet called and his bloodwork came back clean. So nothing that could have caused his immune system to be compromised. She guesses that when we put our cat to sleep back in May, his grief over losing his buddy impacted his immune system. And then he got the mites. My poor boy. I had no idea that he was so grief stricken over losing Nero.
We have 1 right now. We had 2 until we lost Nero. I'm just not ready yet. H is ready and he sent me pictures and facetimed me from the vet to show me a cute black kitten they have there. At some point we'll get another one. I just need more time.
He gets antibiotics for a month, and increasing amounts of liquid ivermectin (the stuff in heartwork pills) for 6 weeks. And he gets a bath weekly with special shampoo. Oh, and we have to make our house as stress free as possible for him.
