I went to my normal place after lunch today to get a fill. Not long after I sat down with the tech, a youngish blonde woman sits down two seats over from me. She proceeds to make a very loud phone call to a girl who is apparently a candidate for a job at the restaurant she manages. Loud woman is on the phone for several minutes setting up a second interview, giving her the address of her office, and asking her about her prior employment at Burger King. She finally gets off the call and then complains to the tech doing her nails that she is NOT happy because the last set of nails broke so fast! She doesn't think she should pay for this set! Whine whine.
So then she makes ANOTHER phone call to the restaurant to speak to her staff about the lunch rush, this interview she set up and blah blah. She is SO LOUD. It was getting embarrassing since it was super quiet except for her. She was on that call for at least 10 minutes. I didn't personally give a shit, but apparently someone did. Another woman on her way out (and LW is still on the phone) stops, leans over into LW's face and says "Just so you know, you are VERY loud and rude and annoying. Everyone else is quiet and it's like you're shouting through a tin can." And then she walks out.
LW is all huffy and says to no one in particular, "I'm SO sorry. I didn't realize you weren't allowed to talk in a nail salon."
Would this annoy you? Would you have said something?

Hahaha. I would never say anything, but it was super awkward and rude. I laughed on the inside when the other woman called her out. It was obvious that the nail techs were all talking shit about her too.

Yes it would have annoyed me and no I wouldn't have said something but I am a wuss. Talking in a nail salon is totally fine. Yelling into a phone for the whole time is annoying to everyone.

Right. I have made/taken brief phone calls in the salon before if it's important. Otherwise, I think adults should know how to use their inside voices.
I would have absolutely been annoyed, and probably would have let myself laugh at the woman's comment. I'm not very confrontational, so I likely wouldn't have said anything either.

I want to say something to loud cell phone talkers EVERY DAY. They are seriously everywhere, and still don't understand the idea that there are satellites up in outer space made and orbiting the Earth specifically so that they don't have to shout into cell phones anymore. The technology is mind-boggingly advanced.
This isn't 1987, Zack Morris - you don't have to yell into your cell phone anymore.
I wouldn't have said anything, because calling someone out on their behavior won't change it.
Several years ago, I saw this book on "modern, urban etiquette" that said when you hear someone doing this, you should pick up your phone, call someone and mention how you heard this loud jackass having a conversation and then describe it verbatim. I would LOVE to see someone do that.

I wouldn't have said anything, but I would have bark laughed and then come down with an embarrassing case of the ever-lasting church giggles after she got told off.

cleo29 It was hard not to laugh at that one. I've never heard anyone say that before!
I MAY have nicely asked her to keep it down if she was much younger than me, but I'm a wuss about confrontation and am also not good with the comebacks. The woman who called her out was probably in her mid 50's and LW was closer to my age (29-32ish.)

I am not one for confrontation at all, well, unless I am really riled up.
There are tons of people who think you need to speak loudly on a cell phone; it drives me nuts.
I don't know if I would have said anything, but I definitely would have laughed at the lady who did. I think it's rude to the nail tech to be on your phone, barring the disturbance to others. Conversely, I think it's rude when my nail lady answers her cell phone while doing my nails - so I'm an equal opportunity hater.

When I worked at Starbucks and people came to the counter on the phone (and gave us the wait-a-minute finger, UGH), we'd mark "CP" on the cup and the drink would come out...not great. Usually a few degrees cold, or a little too sweet, or something like that.

omg, i WISH i had the balls to do this. i need to file this away for later -- i'm sure i will be pissed off enough in the future at some point to do this.

YES! New ML assignment. Haha. I would LOVE to hear the outcome of this. Sadly, I'm willing to bet that the loud jackass probably wouldn't even hear you over their own obnoxious noise.
I was on the train during rush hour one time and a young woman was talking loudly about how she couldn't believe the cops arrested him for that, as if, and what a hassle it was that now everyone has to go to court but his lawyer is better this time so hopefully it won't take long..... Everyone else on the train was quiet and listening.
Then she got all huffy and said she had to go because she was surrounded by RUDE PEOPLE listening to her conversation.
People seem to forget they're in public and not their living room.

I was in Ross once when this guy came in on his phone, he was obviously very upset with someone when he said "why don't you drop down on your knees and suck my dick" myself, a lady with a little girl and an old man just stood there with our mouths open when this gentleman in his 30's walked up to the guy and said "you NEED to take your call outside in PRIVATE, but not before you apologize to all these good people"
the dickwad sheepishly said "sorry" and walked away. we applauded the gentleman

That's... Interesting. I've had to take calls when I got to the front of the line, but I apologize, go take the call, and get in the back of the line. It would be rude to the person taking my order and to the people behind me and to the person I was on the phone with to try to do both at the same time. But now I wonder if that would make my order come out wrong, and if it did, I'd probably be annoyed.
