Anyone know how I can thoroughly clean my running shoes without ruining them? I came into contact with poison ivy during one of my trail runs, and I suspect the oils also got on my shoes (the rash is on my lower legs). The Internet tells me the oils from the plant can last for years (yes, years), so I need to wash my shoes if I ever want to wear them again. Can I just throw them in the washing machine on hot, or will that ruin them? I don't know which shoes I was wearing that day, so I need to clean 2 pairs.
I was told by a doctor not to put running shoes in the washing machine because it can affect the support in the sole....or support somewhere in the shoe. I can't remember exactly what.
I don't know how reliable that is though?? Am I the only one whose been told this?

Pair one has been washed and is air drying!
Now I need to figure out how to ask my mother if she can wash the pair of shoes I left at her house without freaking her out. "You can't touch the shoes with your bare hands. But don't worry, it's totally cool!"
