I agree with the Mayo suggestion. I got most of my info about my paragard from there.
I have no idea how old you are. But a good friend of mine is 28 and 100% certain she and her husband never want to have children. Her doctor won't entertain the idea of permanent birth control until she's 35.

34 with three kids. My doc is A-okay with me having it done.
The mayo info is pretty much what's in the pamphlet. I was looking online for real life testimonials not on the manufacturer site and I can only find the negative ones.

I agree. Unfortunately many of those people are telling how they still got pregnant after the procedure. Even if the information is skewed I'm not sure i could keep myself from being a nervous wreck every month.
I had it. EASY PEASY. No pain. No "recovery" period. It took three months for the scar tissue to grow, so I am assuming people who got pg afterwards didn't wait until they had the hsg to check for blockage.
I worked for an OB/GYN in college and it was popular and seemed to be well-received. It's a super quick, easy procedure. Like most internet reviews, though, most of the people who feel strongly enough to review something are going to be those who have had a bad experience.

It was me! I got it done 2 years ago (I am 28 and have 2 kids). I am not a fan. It's made my PMS awful, I've developed PMDD. I have horrid, clotty periods, which I have nearly had to be admitted for a few times. I'm part of a FB group of people who have problems from it - lots of them are getting hysterectomies because their coils have migrated or stretched into the uterus or other organs (some of them have fallen out into the toilet). There are 40 pregnancies so far out of 1900 people. Lots of women have giant extended stomachs that look like they're in their 3rd trimester. Although I haven't had any serious problems, I would not have recommended it, even before I joined the group. I wish I had gone for a tubal. Erin Brockovich is representing a bunch of patients (me too, I supposed, since I'm part of that group).

Ombli, you just voiced all my greatest fears about having it done. I already have heavy periods and pms. I take iron because of the anemia and can't imagine it being worse.
Sorry to keep posting, I can't edit from the phone.
My periods haven't changed one bit since having it. I'm not sure why a procedure like that would have any effect on that, unless you're coming off hormonal bc.

Well, this sounds totally unappealing. Sorry you're going through this.

You might want to look into an ablation then. I had severe periods for two years post partum, and my GYN recommended this since it is less invasive. The difference is amazing. Very light periods, no cramps or anything. I had it done at the office and was back at work the next day.

I have an ablation too and it is one of the best decisions I have made. I can wholeheartedly recommend it. The difference is amazing.
I also have had a traditional tubal ligation. I am 2 years out from the ligation and 7 month out from the ablation and have not had any bad side effects from either.
