I haven't had one in forever but one started with a little twinge this am and now I'm miserable. Choosing the pants with 5 buttons for this trip was a major mistake!
What are the chances my doctor will call me in a prescription? Or can minute clinics or something help? I already picked up organic unsweetened cranberry juice and azo. But now I'm stuck in the airport and feeling whiny.
My old doc was a dick and wouldn't call in a prescription even though I'd had repeated UTIs. And if you're in another state, your doc might not be able to call in a prescription. Hopefully the azo will help, and stay really hydrated!
I've been to one of the CVS/Walgreens Minute Clinics for a UTI when I was in another city before or when my own doctor couldn't get me in. I had good experiences at both.

Do you happen to remember what it cost? I was looking at urgent care, but it said something like $150 for a basic visit and that's completely ridiculous.

Wouldn't your insurance cover it? This sounds like the self-pay rate.

Just popping back in to say please, please go to an urgent care clinic if the doc won't call something in. My BFF landed in the hospital with a kidney infection and a 104 degree fever once. It was ugly.
If you do drink cranberry juice, get 100% cranberry juice, not the Ocean Spray stuff. It tastes terrible though.

Oh honey. The worst. I've had UTI's in Europe - TWICE. In total agony on a train from Munich to Vienna. The nice concierge got me not one but 2 doctors to come to my room in Vienna - look at my pee and give me a prescription. It was very expensive - but the best money I ever spent. Then there was the doctor in Florence and the one on the cruise... I could go on.
Call your doctor's line and see if you can get a script that way quickly. Going forward get she/he to give you at least five pills in reserve. I also buy Bactrim and Cipro in foreign ports when we cruise once a year every time I can.
Water, cranberry juice is fine but you need the drugs.

I used get to a UTI just about every month, so I consider myself somewhat of an expert. I would try your doctor first to see if they will can in an Rx. If not, go to the clinic/urgent care.
Cranberry, d-mannose, etc. are good prevention techniques, but not guaranteed to work once you already have an infection. Try to get antibiotics as quickly as possible.
For the future, see if your doc will write a Rx that you can fill and keep on hand for travel. I often seem to get them when I'm away from home and the uncertainty of getting an Rx in a strange place just makes it worse. Knowing I have a stash of Cipro with me at all times helps. Since you don't get them often, your doc might not want to do this, though.
THe CVS Minute Clinic will just charge you your regular copay. I went there for my most recent UTI, and I was in and out in 30 minutes with Rx in hand.

This is a good idea too, I do this. I have used them in both Italy and St. Lucia on vacation and was very grateful both times not to have to find a local hospital or urgent care.
