First of all, I had an equipment malfunction and couldn't ride my friend's hybrid so I rode my road bike. Which was fine because all we were doing were learning dismounts, mounts and how to pick up our bikes.
Well, that's what we were supposed to learn but I crashed twice on my first lap, so I spent the rest of the class just watching (I have a race Saturday.)
It's like, crazy bike handling skills combined with sheer physical strength plus a heavy dose of heckling all to equal this insanely fun sport.
They're putting on two more clinics over the next two weeks before a local cx series starts at the end of September. I don't know if I'll ride any this year but I'll certainly be out there watching and heckling and maybe talking about getting a cx bike next year (after this year's purchase of a track bike.)
Uh oh! Sorry to hear about the fall. Best to take it easy and not jeopardize your upcoming race! It's impossible to do cross mounts and dismounts in road shoes--not to mention you will probably break the cleats. I'd see if you could borrow or rent a cross bike or mountain bike; bummer about the equipment malfunction! I'm glad you got to experience just a bit of what cross is like! I love it!
