And it didn't go terrible!
We visited a Universalist church today and used their nursery for Pey while DH and I attended the service.
The nursery is for ages 6w-35m. When we dropped her off there were a few 2 year olds in with her. The workers were all super nice and patient with my stage 5 clinger. She screamed as we left but they reported that she calmed down quickly and had a lot of fun. They said she was quite the busy body and great at sharing. This is also the first time I left her with a stranger, and I wasn't totally freaked out.
Awesome!!! I'm glad she had fun!!! My kid must be beyond a stage 5 clinger because I cant leave him in the nursery. He screams so loud I can hear him from inside the sanctuary, lol

That's great! I'm glad she did so well. @sprinkles I'm with you, I can't even walk away in the grocery store for a second (while he stays with H) without him screaming "mama!" and crying.

@sprinkles and carawestt Pey is super clingy, freaks out, thrashes, and screams when I start to walk away. Whether it be at home so I can go pee or when I go to leave her with someone( my mom l, SIL, etc). But once I am out of sight and no longer an option she moves on fairly quickly.
Maybe that makes her only a stage 4 clinger then. Haha.
Cam CAN be that way. The only person that's ever watched him is my MIL.. so he's always been fine. But I needed a babysitter last week and ILs were gone, so he went to my sisters house. I was SOOOOO worried because I for sure thought he would lose his mind. But he cried just as I was leaving. And then less than 5 minutes later, after I had left, he stopped. I think it was because I was out of sight. But for some reason, he just hates that dang nursery at church, lol.
Lincoln's only been watched one time, for 45 minutes, by my mom in January and she took him to the park before we left. He did great that time. If he actually sees me leave/walk away, he freaks and won't calm down until I come back. H can distract him with something but then he'll remember I'm gone and start whining again. I feel like he was really clingy at 6-7ish months, then it stopped for about a month or 2 and now he's clingier than ever.
I was pretty pleased with it. I loved how small it was, first off. I'd say there were less than 100 people in the service.
The music was up beat and religiously neutral, if that makes sense.
The readings today were from MlK's speech. So the minister talked a lot about justice for all and freedom and such.
There was also a little skit done by the youth group about how just one person can lead a group to make a huge difference. In the skit they were water droplets coming together to revive the earth. It was cute. Haha.
We all had coffee, tea, lemonade, and cookies afterwards and chatted. We were very welcomed and enjoyed it.
We went to the earlier service today but we noticed that when the 11:15 service started filing in, that it was the younger crowd. Young couples with hound kids etc. so I think we try that service time next time.

Sounds like a nice time. I was raised catholic, I'm not sure what my beliefs are these days, and returning to church doesn't appeal to me. I do however wish we had that place of community that church brings. Maybe I'll look into one in my area. Thanks for sharing

I was also raised catholic. The idea of a church has been unppealing to me for years. But I woke up one day and missed that community feeling. I thought of all the fun church based programs and festival and events that Pey wasn't going to be a part of like I was. So I started research based on the UU recommendations here.

I am so glad Pey did so well! That's so reassuring, especially in a new place you're giving a try. I'm also really glad you ha a good experience at UU. I have been trying to find time to reply to your message all week, but it has been a really trying week in the Creamsicle house, so it wast intentional! I went a few times wen I was younger and didn't really have faith or direction. I went through a pretty lengthy and staunch atheist period several years ago, but like you missed the community and togetherness of church itself, so I researched them some and went on a recommendation of a friend. It was a great experience. Spiritual but relaxed, not judgmental, and pulled from a lot of intellectual and secular writings and teachings that I loved. I love they did MLK this week at yours, his week is he anniversary of his "I have a dream," speech in Washington DC, so very fitting
Even though I found my way back to Catholicism, I have incredibly fond and respectful memories of UU. Friends of mine just it married last October back home, and hey had such a beautiful and unique wedding exactly like they wanted. I hope your experience there stays as possible as mine, especially if Pey is having such a good time too!
I keep hearing about universalist churches and want to visit one. The nearest is about 30-40 minutes away which is no big deal, except H works on Sundays and we only have one car so it's not a feasible option for us for the time being.
The town I live in is predominantly catholic. I was "raised" episcopalian (I pushed my family to start going to church when I was in 3rd grade) but that only lasted a few years.
Yeah we're about to move and it will be 45min drive to the church. But it's the only one in the area. We live in a predominately baptist area.
If we decide to become members and go regularly, DH and I will have to change our work schedules because it was just a rare occurrence that I had this morning off.

Thanks! I figured you were just busy with poor sicky Bella. poor thing!
I'm glad you had a positive experience with UU. I'm hoping we find that it is a good permanent "home" for our family.
Yeah that's why we did the MLK stuff today because the speech was aug 28 1963. I found it really refreshing to have speakers who spoke on topics that made you think, but weren't so hardcore religious based.
