Can you guys give me a quick tutorial on this? I have a friend that has been recently diagnosed and want to have a better understanding. I know they have been trying to get pg for over a year and feel bad. She has started skipping girl's night b/c everyone else has kids within the last 16 mos or so and I am sure it is bothering her. But I thought having PCOS just makes it harder not impossible, right? TIA.
It took me a year with an RE to stay pregnant. I do believe that my clotting issues may have been more of a problem than the PCOS though. I did need Clomid to help with my progesterone issues though as a result of PCOS.
Yeah, I googled and all Mayo said was issues with diabetes and this and that. I guess really, I am only wondering if it does make getting pg hard, impossible, what people's experiences were. I just wasn't in the mood to google.
I have PCOS and it took me 18 cycles (5 of them using Clomid) to get pregnant and I was lucky. This time, though, it took only 4 with no meds, so it really depends. Every case is so, so different.

There are thoughts that PCOS may be an off shoot of diabetes. Like, there was a family history, and somewhere along the line it sort of morphed. They can have similar traits. Some versions are insulin resistant. I was put on a metformin while ROTC and pregnant. It's a diabetes med. I do not have diabetes but tested slightly high in the 2nd hour of my gd test. Because I have family history, they said it may help. Didn't hurt
It took 3.5 years with drugs to get my son. I just "celebrated" the 9th anniversary of being told that DH and I wouldn't have biological children. I also was diagnosed with premature menopause at the age of 23 so that is why we were given a 1-5% chance of having children. My daughter was a "forgot my birth control and had sex once" child. Never give up.
PCOS is not a standard disease process. There are so many things that go into the syndrome. What works for one may not work for another. She needs an RE and a full workup. Clomid may work for her in conjunction with metformin. Femara may be her miracle drug. So many different options, hence the RE.
I don't know much but my SIL is on year 5+ and no baby. She moved onto IUI's which unfortunately resulted in two m/c's and an ectopic where she lost a tube I think the next and last stop for them is IVF but I don't think they will be able to afford it. As previously mentioned, it seems to affect everyone differently. I wish your friend luck and success.
