I confess. I have a ridiculous stash of workout clothes. I'm on a constant quest to find the perfect shorts that don't ride up or chafe, the perfect tights that are warm without being restricting, the perfect bra that gives the right amount of support without chafing, and the perfect tops that aren't too hot, too cool, and that wick away sweat without becoming weighed down. As a result, I have approximately 72986 pieces of workout clothes that I've collected over the past 15 years. I've finally gotten rid of most of the oldest stuff, but some still hangs around. I've kept every single one of my tech tees from races, even though I rarely use them because I prefer tanks in warm weather. And I have SO many pairs of shorts for different purposes - short runs, long runs, really hot weather, moderately warm or cooler weather, for running, weights, gym workouts, yoga... it's kind of insane. And then I see something cute and different, and I want it because it's cute and different, even though I don't NEED it.
Please tell me I'm not alone.
I do wear a lot of my running clothes as casual clothes on weekends, especially my running skirts, yoga pants, and some of my tops. So maybe that makes it a little less bad?
You know, I really don't. I usually workout 4x/week, sometimes 5. So I have four capris and 4 sports bras of both types (underwire + elastic). I have seemingly infinite tshirts though haha.
Yes, it is OUT OF CONTROL. I need to stop buying workout clothes, but I can't. I actually just throw cotton shirts away when I get home, or I don't even take them.
Yes! I have been trying to list 4-5 items a week on eBay this summer. (I was shocked that people will totally buy at retail or higher your old LLL stuff! Everything has sold that I listed do far- like 25 items)
I kept telling myself I don't need anything else then another color of cool racer back tank comes out then suddenly you have 30 of the exact same tanks in different colors. Totally ridiculous. Don't get me started on black stretchy pants.....
I don't have too much extra stuff hanging around EXCEPT the race shirts. I keep them all, but I also prefer tanks when it's warm out, and plus some of them really don't fit me properly. But I can't get rid of them!
Yes! Ever since I started running last summer and got sucked into LLL. I spend way more on my workout gear than I do regular clothes. And I've sold some of my LLL pieces too. So I look at them as investments.

I have a tendency to go nuts buying things if I feel they work right for me. I think I have enough tanks and shorts for about 2+ straight weeks if working out. Now I'm trying to build up my socks stash to match my clothes.
I am glad DH sees how happy working out makes me. Makes the justification of my purchases so much easier.
To answer your title question: it depends. Mostly on whether you are asking me or asking Calvin.
I am actually really proud of myself. Yesterday I went through my dresser, and weeded out 2 pairs of cycling shorts that I don't like, and at least 4 or so wicking race t's that I just don't like, and put them in the donate pile. Go me!
Calvin & I share a [non-walk in] closet and have limited drawer space, so I have been on a quest to reduce to only things I love and wear regularly. "It fits" is not good enough to retain a place in my wardrobe. We'll see how long the kick lasts.
I am pretty good about things actually (eventually) getting donated once they go to The Pile. I usually leave them there for a while, so I'm absolutely sure I didn't go reaching back for it. (Usually what happens is that when I go through everything to make the donations, I go oh, I totally forgot about that! Guess I didn't miss it.)
One thing I am still bad about is shorts. I have some that I don't love, but haven't parted with. Also racing suits from college. Baby steps.
Yes. I tried to weed some of it out last week, and barely made a dent. I need to suck it up and get real, but its extra hard because half my stuff doesn't fit my postbaby butt but I don't want to get rid of it yet!

Slowly building my collection up. I've only been running serious since the start of the year but have a hard time saying "no" to myself. I've been giving myself a free pass because it's for working out. It's going to get ugly.
I love my workout clothes. I'd much rather buy and wear those than street clothes. The other day I started folding/organizing the bins I keep them in, and I realized I have a veritable rainbow of tech tops.
I only have 2 pairs of shorts right now after doing a massive purge of all my old pairs that didn't fit right. Shirts (t, tech, long sleeve, tanks) on the other hand fill 2 out of 6 drawers in my dresser..
yes. my running shorts drawer is overflowing, as is my sports bra drawer. i have GOT to start sorting through it and getting rid of old stuff.
You have a single running shorts drawer? I have one small drawer of shorts to wear around the house plus a big drawer with my LLL/Athleta running shorts and yoga pants. My warm pants are put away for the summer. I also have a drawer for tech t-shirts and a drawer for tanks.
Define excessive. I have an entire closet in my office for cycling clothes. It's packed even after I cleaned stuff out a few months ago. I have one drawer in my dresser full of workout clothes. My nightstand is nothing except for workout clothes (about 2 drawers full).
I threw out a bunch before we moved and still have a ton. I pretty much live in them though, so I NEED them. I added bins under the bed because I ran out of room in my dresser.

yes
in my defense (LOL), it's small... one of the top drawers in this dresser
I probably have too many clothes in that I have a one drawer full of workout clothes but I pretty much wear the same stuff all the time. but it sounds like a far cry from what some of y'all have going on. I have 2 pairs of tights, 2 pair of crops, 7 pairs of shorts, 8-9 sports bras and I don't know how many shirts. a lot. my general rule of thumb is that once the stuff cannot fit in one drawer anymore it's time to scale it back. it's getting to be that time again.
I think the dmv people need to organize a shirt swap/GTG/HH or something. I know I have plenty of shirts that I never wear that someone else might enjoy.
