Did it specify hand guns? My mom hunts so she has a gun. And I can kind of understand having a gun in the house. It's just people walking around carrying hand guns that freaks me out.
Any and all automatic weapon. I dont really know enough about guns to know of those are all hand guns.
It is pretty hard to obtain an automatic weapon. I think you are referring to semi-automatic.
I'd much rather have non-criminals have firearms than criminals. People having guns on their person in public doesn't bother me, but I grew up in an open carry state and my H has his firearm on his person any time we leave the house.
My second week of college I was robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot outside of my apartment. I can't even describe in words what someone putting a gun to your head feels like. I mean I had nothing- he put a gun to my head for a Cover Girl make up compact. While the police were with me taking the report they got another girl and raped her. I can't help but always go back to that day and wonder ... Well what if I had a gun too and could have spared her that pain. Wishful thinking I know. Or what if the robbers turned rapists had thought we had guns ,too? Would it have made them think twice about proceeding with their crimes? Maybe.
That said I think having a fire arm or any weapon in a diaper bag is ridiculous. You can very well buy a different holster to accommodate your changing body.
I was at a wedding on Saturday and I guess a couple that like to CC was having problems with how to do so wearing dress clothes or something. My husband heard the convo, not me, but he kind of side-eyed and he loves his guns and hunting.
I would have to agree with whoever said that pepperspray > guns when protecting yourself.
Yeah, this is a non-issue and part of the bigger problem. How annoying.

WTH! No way I would carry guns in a diaper bag. That is just an accident waiting to happen. I know plenty of men that have guns here (DH and friends) but as far as I know none if their wives have guns on their own.
Same.
I just can't imagine having a gun on me especially in a diaper bag, WTAF?!

Yeah, semi automatic I think. Also, I highly doubt the people owning guns in my town are hunting. I'm sure some are but most are not.
In Re: to lack of police, I think that plays a really big part. Towns and cities should not be cutting police. Why is it OK to cut limit the role of police? Because people can just protect themselves with a gun. IMO, that is all a part of this dangerous American gun culture.
Not. Okay. It is too easy for a kid to get to it that way and they could so easily think it's a toy. This shit scares me so much. I don't think (and really hope) none of the moms I hang out with do this.
I would say MI is a hunting state, so owning a gun for that purpose is pretty normal. However, I grew up in a very anti-gun household, where as a child I was barely allowed to even have squirt guns, so I was rather shocked in high school to realize my household was odd in that way. I've never seen or held a real gun and have no desire to do so, and I say this as someone who lives 15 minutes away from Saginaw, less than an hour from Flint, and less than two hours from Detroit, all of which regularly appear in the top ten on most dangerous city lists, all of which I do spend time in. Also, if I found out that a mom I knew was taking guns to playdates, those dates would no longer include me.

Ugh, don't get me started on this topic.
Getting a CC permit in CA is really pretty hard. I have a (whackadoo) cousin that got one and that process took him over a year, maybe more. He is weird, but he passed the pysch eval unfortunately.
The thought of people carrying concealed weapons around me and my children makes me want to scream. I fucking hate it. And no, I don't trust your responsible husband, sister, brother, uncle, whothefuckever. Because I don't know them from anyone.

This is how I feel. Finding out the mother or father was carrying at the park, lunch date, my house, etc would mean an immediate end to the friendship between Ada and their kid.
I have a gun license as DH does hunt, so we have guns locked away in the house. I thought it would be responsible to get my license. Not only is leaving a gun in a diaper bag incredibly stupid and grossly negligent, in Mass, it's illegal. If You have a license to carry, it must be on your person at all times. A purse doesn't count either. So, so stupid.
This is true. I think thats the law everywhere, no?? It is in MI. The license is to carry on your person only.
A lot of my family member carry. I'm kinda used to it. I may be willing to do it, but it would worry me having a gun on me with a baby/ toddler attached to my boob or crawling all over. We will not have toy guns in our house I know for a fact because we have real guns and I want to make sure that any children we have know that guys are NEVER a toy.
Also, a mom and toddler were stabbed in a park not to fat from me the other day. It makes me worry that my made wasn't enough if something like that were to happen to me. Then if I was carrying, I would have felt so much safer. I'm really torn though because I'm not sure if I would feel comfortable having a fun on me. I'm a small person so I think the holster would be pretty obvious on me too so I don't know if I would want to carry for that reason as well.

That's good to hear! I wasn't sure and didn't want to make a sweeping statement if I was wrong I think it should definitely be a universal law.
Well, now wikipedia (lol, reliable, I know) is telling me in MI you can 'open carry' in a car with a CCW... so that wouldnt NEED to be on your person. But I swear DH told me he was NOT allowed to leave a gun in the car. Idk... I'd have to ask him all of the details, he just had to take the class again.

I live in Oklahoma. That probably says enough of what the gun culture is like in my area that I shouldn't need to elaborate. I really don't like seeing people walk around with guns, but I know lots of people around here that have their concealed carry license. I think it's because most people around here descended from frontier pioneers and have that type of mentality. Seriously.
We have one gun stored safely.
ETA: We don't have our CC and don't intend to. The only place our gun has ever been is to the shooting range when H taught me how to use it.
I think she means "he wears it when he remembers to wear it" meaning all other times it is in the safe if he is not wearing it.
Oh, yes yes. Thats what I meant. A lot of times he forgets he's even able to wear it....so when he remembers, he carries. Its seriously probably like... once every few months. Every other time its locked in the safe. Like I said, he just has it because he likes having the option.
I'm just picturing like, "oh hey, why don't I bring the ole gun for a spin today bc I remembered it. " I just can't picture this train of thought. I didn't anything sinister about why you said.
@sprinkles is his decision to bring the gun or not at all related to where you guys are going?! this seems strange to me if its totally random. Like if you happened to be going through some rough neighborhoods that day, maybe you'd say oh we better bring the gun just in case.
But if out of five times a month you went to the local park, one time he brought the gun that seems a bit bizarre!
I dont consider MI a heavy gun state. But the point of a concealed carry permit is that you dont see it. You have no idea who has a gun. There could be tons of people around you with them, you wont know
Its a lot higher than Massachusetts. There "could" be people around me carrying concealed weapons but outside of law enforcement (and criminals I suppose), it would be very few. It just isn't that common here to carry a weapon.

I have a gun. It has never seen my diaper bag, purse, etc and never will. That is gross negligence for ANY person, wtf. My husband is weapons trained and he doesn't carry. Ours stay locked in a safe, where they will remain for the foreseeable future. These women are stupid, foolish, and an accident waiting to happen.
Um my soon to be ex H is a gun toting coconut. I don't see it a problem to have one gun under lock and key but carrying that shit in your diaper bag is crazy... Jeff carries a lot and I fucking hate it especially when he holds the kids. I've asked him time and time again and he'll stop for a little then say he is "protecting his family" and I'd be thankful if someone broke in one day and he had his gun so I wouldn't get raped and killed.... We live in a nice neighborhood with many neighbors that keep their eyes out and also have cops that do many details every night down our street (ohh and we live in "the country" of Mass)... Um I kinda hate guns because he has been such a douche with them (he shot a hole in my house once by mistake- antique gun didn't know it was loaded... The fucking bullet went out the wall above the garage and ended up somewhere in the yard... thank God no one was hurt! Thank God I didn't have E &A yet... these paranoid behaviors went crazy after we had kids too, he didn't own one fucking gun when I first married him now he owns like 15 and is a doomsday prepper... I fucking give up I cannot wait till he leaves this house luckily his guns are already gone...
I officially cannot take April 2014. Maybe I'll try again in a month or so. I am just too tired to read this shit.
I gave up too.
I think I also need to give up due to my rage at all of the stupidity.
one chick is saying its ok she keeps her gun by her bed because she keeps the clip out and her kid couldn't possibly figure out how to put it in there and pull the trigger. Really?! And its also fine because she keeps her bedroom door locked anyway all night in case someone broke in, so they wouldn't be able to get in the room. aaaaah the crazies.

I don't really know anyone with guns and I'm happy about that. It scares me to think that someone could be walking around with a gun in their diaper bag.
I think I also need to give up due to my rage at all of the stupidity.

This is disgusting. This is what leads to all the horrific "four year old shot his two year old brother," news stories that break my heart into a thousand pieces.
I think I also need to give up due to my rage at all of the stupidity.

Im not conding this at all but most semi-automatic guns need to have the clip in and then you have to pull back on the slide in order for a bullet to actually go into the chamber and be fireable. The slide is VERY hard to pull back. Im not saying a child cant figure this out but I think it would be extrememly difficult for a child to pull back that slide, or to even figure out it moves back and forth.
Again, not condoning this at all. That woman is stupid for leaving her weapons out like that.
I think I also need to give up due to my rage at all of the stupidity.

So I just read that entire thread and I'm completly baffled by the reasonings most those women feel they have to carry and the total lack of understanding that toddlers and kids do LOTS of shit us parents don't expect them to do.
And she locks herself from her child?! WTF Keep the crazies out of my bedroom but let them have at my child.

It is not out of the norm in my area of NC to see someone walking around in a store with a gun. I would never put a gun in a diaper bag or anywhere a child can easily grab it. That is just insane to me.
Guns aren't legal here, unless you're a police. So yeah, I would be freaked out if I saw one. Actually, I have never seen a gun IRL in all my 33 years.
