Putting them down at night

So when you put your LO down at night, do they just roll over and go to bed?

DD is usually out within 15 minutes but the last few weeks, she stands up and fights sleep.  She is SO tired and will be hanging on the crib rails to hold her up. JUST GO TO SLEEP and stop fighting it!   She will roll around and then stand up and then roll around some more and then stand up.  This will continue for an hour sometimes.  Its so bizarre.

What do your kids do?

He's usually asleep in 5-10 minutes. We get him in his jammies, brush his teeth, read him a story, and put him in his crib. Lights off, sound machine on, door closed, and he's out.

I have a fighter, not a (sleep) lover. He now fights for a solid 2-3 hours each night. Bedtime routine is usually diaper and pjs, books with daddy, 6-8 ounces of milk, songs and rocking, nursing, another 6-8 ounces milk, songs and swaying, more nursing, more milk, and lots of screaming whenever his precious skin brushes the evil crib. Some days he just rolls over and goes to sleep. Some days he cries and stands up, usually if we go in there one time (he does better with DH) and lay him back down he will go to sleep.

It is like he is so sleepy, but he stands up and gets too worked up to realize he needs to lay down and relax. It is downright pitiful actually :-(. It could just be a ploy to see up one more time, but once doesn't bother me .

Probably not what you want to hear but she goes to sleep within 5-10 minutes. Sometimes there is a little crying and some whining.

Wind down time is usually in our bedroom. When he gets really sleepy I bring him to his crib. He usually protests (whining/crying) but falls asleep within a minute or two. The past few nights, not so much. Last night he refused to sleep in his room. I finally gave up and brought him over to our bed.

Ugh I have never really had a good sleeper although she fools me at times. I let her play after bath, then she comes up on the couch next to me, lays down and falls asleep. Sometimes I hold and sing to her instead. But I don't usually put her in the crib awake. I can't believe this is our bedtime routine. I need to really start (again) doing sleep training.

She doesnt cry. She just stands there in the corner of the crib and rubs her lovey all over her face. She sways like a drunken sailor and her knees buckle because she is so tired. Its so sad to watch on the monitor. WHY OH WHY DO YOU FIGHT IT.

Hmm it depends. If you pick the sweet window of sleepiness but not overly tired. WE put him down, he puts his thumb in his mouth, hugs pooh and falls asleep in about 5ish minutes.

If we don't hit that sweet spot he will cry though.

DS: Only fights sometimes. He will talk a lot before naps. At night he usually will roll around and talk for about 15 minutes.

DD: asks to go to sleep. She walks into her room and grabs her lovey and says "ni-ni" on her own. If her brother wasn't in the room with her, I am pretty certain she would sleep 12+ hours a night.

Yes we got lucky, she doesn't go to bed until about 9 but I can tell she's getting tired and I just put her in the crib and she rolls over and I don't hear a peep from her. She will fight naps sometimes but never at night unless she's sick or something.

Sounds a lot like our routine. He is usually out within 5 minutes.

I used to have a great sleeper, I would ask if she was ready for bed, and she would run to her crib.

However, the past 2 weeks have been a nightmare. She gets so upset that she throws up all over herself. I have no idea what to do. Clearly, I don't want her to throw up. So now I hold her till she falls asleep then try to sneak her into her crib. The first week this worked. Now it doesn't. She will wake up and immediately cry so hard that I then pick her up and she throws up all over both of us. I feel like I am at the end of my rope and have no idea what to do. I HATE that she is so bothered by this now that she is throwing up most nights. Any advice please!

It used to be fast. Lately it's a fight.

I have to put dolly to sleep first, then she wants to come back out of the crib and I have to lay down holding her for a while. then she wants to go in her bed while I rub her back and sing or shush. If I stop rubbing too soon, she tries to get up and get out. So I rub and sing. Then at some point, tentatively lift my hand. if silence, i can begin edging towards the door very very slowly while continuing to shush or sing.

It's bugging me lately because she's also not going to bed anyway until 830 or later, so then its another half hour of this shiz before I get back downstairs. Ugh. I keep hoping its a phase!

Oh, I forgot the part where he wiggles off of DH's lap and runs to find me a few times.

If we take him to bed with us, it's like a 3-5 minute sweet process of him rolling to one of us, giving hugs, rolling to the other, hugs, huge sigh, sleep. It's so tempting to just cosleep, but I'm trying really hard to keep him in his crib.

Owen goes through phases. Right now we put him down, say good night and walk out. He might take 5 mins with a bit of whining, or 45 mins just thumping his feet talking to himself, but he goes down pretty easily.

Then the moon will be in the arc of venus (or whatever) and he screams and cries and won't lie down unless one of us is right there beside him. I much prefer the first phase.

Ummmmm. I still nurse him to drowsiness, pop in the paci, and lay him in his crib, then he rolls over and is out. I'm terrified to stop the nursing part and have no idea how.

This is it, almost exactly.  Except sound machine.  We don't have one.

We do bath, tooth brushing, lotion, and jammies. Then we turn off all but one light in the living room and turn off the tv. She nurses(or sippy cup from DH) on and off and sort of plays. Eventually she climbs up on the couch, lays down, and falls asleep by herself. We let her lay there for 10mins and then we transfer her to her crib.

We're taking the slow route to bedtime changes. We just fully got rid of formula last week, so now he gets a bottle of water. On good nights, he'll alternate sipping on the water and sucking his pacifier while I rock and sing to him. He always falls asleep in our arms.

Our next step is to wean off the bottle and hopefully he'll learn to a) fall asleep with just the pacifier and then b) fall asleep on his own.

I got lucky in this department. The entire routine is bath (if its bath night), PJ's, and then sippy of milk and cuddles on the couch. Then DH brings him to his room, reads him a book, turns his sound machine on, and lays him down. Cam just lays there cuddling his blankets until he falls asleep. Sometimes its 2 seconds, sometimes its 5-10 mins. Never more than 10 mins, and he hasn't cried for months now

He typically falls asleep quickly. We lay him down and he might talk for a couple minutes but he is usually out within 5-10 minutes.

This is Ari usually. But we did introduce a light blanket and I have been tucking him in (waist down) and he has been falling asleep easier lately.

Yeah.. I still nurse Delaney, then give her paci and hold her until she falls asleep and lay her down asleep.

We will be sleep training when she has her new room (in like a month)

Most of the time he cuddles his stuffed puppy, rolls over, and closes his eyes. We read 2-3 books and rock before bed.

But we do have the occasional night of screaming. There's no rhyme or reason to it.

It was a long road to get to where we are now Sleep has been a battle.

I nurse May for a full hour until she falls asleep. It is time consuming, but luckily, she doesn't fight me and it is a sweet, special time for us. I have no idea what will happen when she stops nursing.

Lincoln goes through stages where he'll flight sleep but he's been good for the last couple months. After his bath, we change into jammies, brush his teeth and then I nurse him for a few min and put him in his crib. He rolls around to get comfortable and then is out within 5-10 minutes.

It took us 13 months to get where we're at.

True. Once we get into overtired territory--all bets are off!
