Kai has had very few solid, ploppable poops in his life (I was going to say "only a handful." But, yuck). It's always really mushy. It occurred to me recently that maybe that's not normal?? Do your kids have mostly grown-up turds? Has K had life-long diarrhea that I've been ignoring, or do toddlers just have soft poop?
Edie's is soft and definitely not 'ploppable.' I was under the impression that soft is how it's supposed to be. A few months back she was having some trouble with constipation, so she got a daily sippy of diluted prune juice.
She's not having that problem any more, but any time I change a diaper and they are 'grown up turds' (lol), I serve her up a sippy of prune juice.
Lincoln's is soft. He gets the occasional turd but not often. He pooped on the floor the other day and it looked like a mini grown up turd, it was weird to see haha.
Audrey had turds from 10-12 months. Then I started giving her sippys of milk and they went soft again. I think she was just dehydrated and not drinking enough before that. She had diarreah earlier this week and you would know. She pooped 4 times and I could actually hear it. And we had a blowout for the first time in 6 months. Usually it is paste consistency.
More solid when her diet is more balances and if I let a day or two go by where she isn't eating really great it will be looser. If I see it being really loose I will offer her more binding foods.
She actually has both terds and peanut butter texture like poop. Guess it depends what she eats. And I don't have the pleasure of changing every diaper since she is in DC during the week. She has been pooping both before and after DC so I've seen a bit more. I don't know why she doesn't wait They all stink really bad.
Ok, this is making me feel better. Thanks! Coupled with his little pot belly I was starting to worry he had parasites or something, lol. Sounds like he's at least not a total outlier in the turd department.

Nice soft clean poops. Usually they mush into the shape of her butt, but they don't really leave a mess on the diaper. Like, when I take her dipe off, they stick to her butt rather than the dipe.

The round turds or "eggs" make me laugh, because sometimes I don't get them folded up in the diaper good enough and they will roll out when I go to throw it away. I like that they are easy to clean up after, and she rarely seems uncomfortable, but I was noticing that it looks like she might have a small hemorrhoid. So I am glad she's having some more smooshy poops lately.
@tambcat, lol, Cam had 'rabbit turd' poop today, and one rolled right out onto the changing table! But that worries me because thats always a sign of constipation with me... so I like to try and avoid that type of poop in Cam (which means he ate applesauce or bananas..both things constipate him).
But usually his poops are wedge shaped/form to his butt, so they aren't runny, but they are soft.
My understanding is all poo, even ours, is supposed to be more mushy than we really anticipate.
ETA the boys eat tons of fruits and veggies and very little processed foods. They have a constant flow of water (we leave their cups around). Their poo is always soft. Even the more solid stuff is pretty soft.
Matildas are mostly soft or paste-like. I prefer the hard ones because they are so easy to clean. I HATE the messy messy ones where I use like twelve wipes and still end up with poop on my hands. If she wold just LIE there peacefully all would be well
I'm also on team offer more liquids/fruit if the poop looks like rabbit pellets.
I'm no longer anything close to a food angel -- processed food has ingredient labels and often labels allergens. I know McDonalds, goldfish, cheez-its, and ritz crackers won't send us to the ER.
Poop is supposed to be soft. There's actually a medical scale for levels of what poop is en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bristol_stool_scale Jameson used to get the "rabbit turds" and that was one of my causes of concern with him. He ended up having food allergies and since eliminating them his poop has been much more normal.
